0% Balance Transfer For Life
Balance transfer credit cards are credit cards that have the ability to transfer balances from other credit cards to the balance transfer card. When balances are moved from one credit card to another, these balances now become counted as balance of the card where it is moved into, following rules by the credit card companies involved. Its main purpose is to save money as transferring balances from credit cards with high interest rates into those with low APRs (annual percentage rates) decreases the interest charges. Today, credit card companies have provided customers balance transfer credit cards with a variety of options to choose from. 0% balance transfer for life is one of them.
So what is a 0% balance transfer for life credit card? Well, it is a credit card that offers zero percent interest rate for the life of a balance and zero percent APRs are great because that means there is no interest. However, the catch is that, upon entering the deal, the card owner must make minimum payments to the balance transfer card even if it is of zero interest rate. Also, cardholders are typically asked to use their credit cards to make purchases several times per month and these purchases build up interest over time while the card owner's payments are passed to the balance transfer card. So it's like having another credit card where you can transfer your balance without interest. The other credit cards though retain their interest rates. But having a 0% balance transfer card is great for those who want their huge credit and debt decreased or removed faster by using the money they save in the balance transfer card to pay off the balance in the cards with interest rates.
However, read the fine print before jumping into a 0% balance transfer for life deal. Check carefully the terms and conditions and make sure that everything is well understood. Will the zero percent balance transfer deal really help reduce your credit debt? If so, then go for it. But know that sometimes these kinds of deals makes matters even worse for the cardholder because instead of relieving debt, more interest charges accumulate. This is since the card owner is forced to make regular purchases even if he doesn't want to solely for the reason of maintaining the 0% APR deal. And if not recognized, more and more purchases eventually become credit card debt. So don't get 0% balance transfer for life deals if what you want is to just focus on payments to your current credit card. Zero APRs really are tempting but they sure as well can be tricky.
There are suggestions if one should decide to give the zero percent balance transfer for life deal a go. Recommended credit cards for these deals include those which offer a purchase deal for 12 months and having rebates and low interest rates. Also, look for those which have introductory periods of at least a year but of course making sure that these do not have strings attached. If there are none, unluckily, a card owner is then better off without these deals. Remember the main reason for getting a 0% balance transfer credit card. Will you make the deal just because zero percent interest rates are great or because it's cool to have another credit card? Or will you get the zero percent balance transfer card to save money from the balances of your other credit cards? Think about it. Keep in mind companies do these things because there is a credit card business opportunity so don't just hand over your hard earned cash.
