100 Calorie Snacks
The snack food industry has exploded in the past couple of years with 100 calorie snacks proportioned for the consumer who is worried about eating too much.
While sticking to one of these packets as a snack can be a good way to control portion sizes, too often people eat more than one packet.
On the other hand, most of the snack foods in these packets are not filling…they are high in processed carbs, and/or they are such small portions that it would be a miracle if they kept anyone’s hunger at bay.
At most, these packets are great to satisfy the munchies…if you stick to one packet. The 100 calorie packs of nuts are also a great way to get protein and have a very healthy snack.
There are plenty of snacks you can prepare on your own that are 100 calorie snacks. Keep in mind, however, that you also need to make sure the snack isn’t high in fat.
For a good afternoon snack that will tide you over through rush hour and until dinner is made, try a low sodium, veggie-packed soup. There are several in the soup aisle that are at or under 100 calories
Thirty grapes make for a nice filling snack and come in at just over 100 calories.
For an even sweeter fruit snack, try fifteen strawberries and a quarter cup of light whipped topping to dip them in.
One of the popcorn companies makes microwave popcorn premeasured into 100 calories portions. Yum! Snacking on popcorn is a comfort food for many people.
The ice cream novelties section of the freezer section at your grocery store now has a LOT of options for snacks around 100 calories.
You will find them from several companies and in a bunch of different flavors. While these aren’t the healthiest option, if you’re craving sweets, these will hit the spot!
A leaf of fresh, crisp lettuce wrapped around some fresh deli turkey and a small slice of low fat cheese is a lovely snack that can be very satisfying.
