10 Dog Friendly Beaches In Michigan

It’s not unusual to want your dog to be able to go with the family when heading out for a vacation. There are even many pet friendly beaches in Michigan anymore, in addition to plenty of state parks in Michigan. If you and the family are considering taking off for some peace and quiet but want your pooch to go also, then consider one of the many Michigan dog friendly beaches.

A bit of advice on courteous pet ownership: Many places have stopped permitting pets because the owners are not upholding their end of the bargain. It is very important that you take care to clean up well after your pet. Those who are camping do not appreciate stepping in something your friend leaves behind. It’s also important that you make sure your animal is controlled at all times. Don’t allow them to jump on other campers, stay tied up and barking for periods of time or become a general nuisance. You want to be an ambassador for the rest of us animal lovers and by doing so show that we and our pets have manners. In addition to this make sure your pet has plenty of fresh water anytime you take them out and about.

Here leashes are optional as there is a ½ acre fenced in Dog Park right on the beach for the safety and enjoyment of our best friend. This is one of those pet friendly beaches in Michigan that runs a little opposite; the areas that don’t allow pets are actually marked. There are tons of beach areas as well as hiking. It is a beach that requires leashes. There are tons of parks in the area, including some state parks in Michigan.

5. Norman F. Kruse Park

Norman F. Kruse Park in Muskegon, Mi is one of the well-loved Michigan dog friendly beaches. There is tons of sand that stretches out for dogs to play on and get in the water at. This is one of the pet friendly beaches in Michigan where the dogs are allowed to go off leash. In addition they even provide waste bags for an owner who may have forgot theirs. It isn’t far from one of the state parks in Michigan either.

6. Mill Pond Dog Park

One of the pet friendly beaches in Michigan is in Saline. Mill Pond Dog Park is a wonderful place to head out with your favorite furry friend. This is one of the Michigan dog friendly beaches that is fenced in on three sides with river access. It also requires that your pets stay leashed while enjoying their time cooling off.

Though this is one of the state parks in Michigan where the beach is reserved for people, dos are allowed water access past the boat launch. To keep this spot on the list of Michigan dog friendly beaches it is vital that you keep your pet leashed, attended to and that you clean up after it.

9.  Cheboygan State Park

Another of the state parks in Michigan that is also on the list of pet friendly beaches in Michigan is Cheboygan State Park. This hot spot has a host of activities for the whole family, along with trails and beaches for healthy outdoor fun. Camping, tent and trail areas are dog friendly. There is no additional fee for well-behaved dogs. This campground in Michigan does require leashes and doesn’t allow pets in the public swimming areas.

10. Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lake Shore Beaches

One of the most unique state parks in Michigan that has Michigan dog friendly beaches is Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lake Shore Beaches in Empire. There are designated areas where dogs are not allowed and there are also a host of trails, campgrounds and beaches where they are permitted. They ask that all dogs are leashed and cleaned up after in any of the areas they are at and that they not be left unattended.
