Easy karaoke songs: get the microphone and sing!

We’ve all been in that situation where you kind of want to go on stage and give it all (a bit the Bon Scott way), but at the same time you know your singing is not that good. So guess what? You should play your cards safely. Go there, give it all, but choose an easy karaoke song that you know you can cope with. No ideas? Here we list a few of the most popular.

1. Born in the USA (Bruce Springsteen)

This song can cheer anyone up, and it will most likely encourage the crowd to join you in the singing – now you can just focus on your playback and unforgettable performance!

2. Livin' on a Prayer (Bon Jovi)

This is a karaoke legend. Make the mic stand yours, use it as a guitar, a horse or just smash it against the floor (only with the permission of the karaoke owner…)

3. It's Raining Men (The Weather Girls)

Typical song for several women to sing together. This way you can always hide behind the others!

4. Don't Stop Me Now (Queen)

In the middle of the fiesta, no one will resist this one. Plus, if anyone decides your singing is awful and you should get off the stage, you can always reply “Don’t stop me now, cause I’m having a good time”, what else can they do?

5. Summer Nights (Olivia Newton John & John Travolta)

Grab your boyfriend and practice with the Grease movie beforehand (when you get on stage you’re usually drunk, and there will be people watching, so you won’t remember much unless you come well prepared). You can even get to show with your dance the 50s!

1. American Pie (Don McLean)

The great thing about this song is that it has a double feeling to it – the really slow (and sad) one, and then comes the more danceable part – which of course you’re more than expected to dance. It is an anthem, so other people might join in. Be careful with the false notes if you’re not used to changing tone often.

2. I Will Survive (Gloria Gaynor)

Another sad and happy song. Gather the crowd and have them doing the final chorus part together, with their hands waving in the air. You know they’ll love it, just start the trend and everyone else will follow.

3. Like a Virgin (Madonna)

My recommendation for this song is to choose it only if you’re a woman and you’re single. Unpredictable consequences can happen otherwise. But if you sing it the Betty-Boop way, you might have some admirers afterwards.

4. Hey Jude (The Beatles)

This is THE basic song to sing at a karaoke with friends and family. You can even have granny sing along, for two reasons: 1. It’s very slow so she can read the letters even from a distance at an ok pace, and 2. It’s the oldest they usually have at the karaokes, so at least there’s some chance she will know it. Come on, do her a favor and sing with her! You know you want to!

5. Killing Me Softly (Roberta Flack)

The ballad moment of the night – don’t dare spoiling it. People will start hugging and cuddling while you sing, so you don’t really need to dance, just feel it deep inside and transmit it to your audience.

I always like snagging a woman to duet with on Sonny & Cher's "I Got You Babe" (and sometimes that has actually helped me GET said babe!). Amusing article.

Nice job!

So much to say about karaoke, but please, everyone, NO singing of "Picture", "Turn The Page", "Paradise By The Dashboard Light", "Bobby McGee". Karaoke veterans are ready to gag when these come on; or at least adopt the habit of smoking outside - a lesser evil than listening!

Thanks! Nice strategy, I'll adopt it in the future (I'm not a smoker but I can always join the smokers outside!)

I once wrote an article for Examiner, called "I'm creating the perfect karaoke bar". It's actually the only humorous article I ever wrote. It was about my experiences, of course. I mentioned "methods of escape". Lol! If you Google that title, it should still be there.
