10 Famous Haunted Places in The US

When there is talk about haunted it is hard to conceive of anything other than famous haunted places where people have died, individuals, families or whole legions of people during famous battles like those associated with Gettysburg which constitutes some of the most haunted places in the US. When you know that people have been murdered in haunted places in the US under unknown or suspicious circumstances or been massacred it isn’t difficult to feel goose bumps and odd neck feelings in these famous haunted places.

1) House of Mystery, Gold Hill, OR

Number one on list of famous haunted places in the US is in Gold Hill, OR where gold miners started mining in the 1800s. The House of Mystery is one of the famous haunted places where natural phenomena due to a confirmed vortex exist. This is one of the famous haunted places which only scientists can explain and if you visit you see your perceptions change. A vortex is considered a whirlpool like force. Native Americans called this area “forbidden Ground’ due to insane happenings they observed when here.

2) Wood Island Lighthouse, Maine

This is the oldest lighthouse in Maine, 2 miles off the coast and started in 1808. It is one of the New England Ghost Projects making it one of the famous haunted places in the US. In 1896 Howard Hobbs killed a man and also himself then in 1914 the lighthouse keeper went mad and committed suicide due to the haunted feelings in this one of the haunted places in the US. 3) Lydia’s Bridge, Jamestown just outside Greensboro, NC

If you go along US 70 on the long curve by the now abandoned and overgrown underpass you may see the phantom hitchhiker also called the Lady in White. Lydia's Bridge is a  famous haunted place where in the 1923 Lydia was killed by a car on her way home from a fun night out dancing. This is one of the haunted places in the US where if you drive by you may see a woman hitchhiking and if you stop to pick her up she will climb in and direct you to her home but she isn’t in your car when you arrive making it one of the famous haunted places where screams are still heard from the bridge.

4) Lizzie Borden House, Fall River, Massachusetts

The famous Lizzie Borden was acquitted for killing her father and stepmother with a hatchet but she is said to still haunt this house built in 1845 which is considered one of the most haunted places in the US. Located just 50 miles south of Boston you can spend a night in the murder room in this B&B which is one of the famous haunted places which gives tours and since photos are permitted you might get a picture of something in this one of the famous haunted places.

5) Point Lookout Lighthouse, Scotland, Maryland

9) Manassas National Battlefield Park, VA

As number nine on our list of haunted places in the US this place has several noted haunted locations one is the site of an unfinished railroad started by Robert E Lee. It is also the site of two major Bull Run battlefields which were two of the clashes between the Union soldiers and the Confederates. This site includes the Signal Hill Hospital where floating lights often seen.

10) The Capitol Building, Washington DC

Number ten on the list of the most haunted places in Washington DC not only does it have long dead statesmen still wandering the halls but when being built some of the construction workers were killed especially one from the rotunda who is seen still floating under the dome. There is also a black cat which makes this one of the haunted places as this black cat appears in one of the haunted places in the US whenever there is a change of administration.
