How to Get Good Looking Skin

You do not have to spend a lot of money on expensive name brand skin care products to have healthy, youthful skin. Many of the products you can buy off the shelf are based on natural ingredients you probably have in your kitchen right now.

So why not make your own home remedies for soft skin instead of injecting or applying chemical laden mixtures you know nothing about?

In fact, some of the old remedies that were used for thousands of years have been lost over the last half century because Madison Avenue has convinced us that we need to buy everything in a pretty box with 'special' ingredients.

You can make your own exfoliate or cleanser with any number of natural ingredients including cucumbers, baking soda, raspberries, sea salt and sugar.

The rest of this article list recipes to create cleansers and moisturizers with foods that are probably in your kitchen right now.

So before you go stock up on the latest new anti-aging cream, try one of my favorite cleansers listed below, then apply an exfoliant followed by a facial mask as you rest in a hot bath. Be sure to rinse well after each step to remove any residue that may clog your pores and cause acne later.

The Importance of Moisturizing

The key to youthful looking skin is moisturizing. When we wash our faces with these types of treatments, we strip our skin of the natural oils that are produced by the body to create a barrier against toxins and irritants.

After doing these types of facial treatments, it is important to moisturize your skin to prevent irritation, and dry, ugly and older looking skin. Moisturizers prevent water on and within the skin from escaping by evaporation, and so applying one of the following natural moisturizers immediately after washing or exfoliating the skin with keep skin feeling soft and glowing for years.

Foods Used for Moisturizing

How to Get Clear Skin
The following foods are excellent natural moisturizers that keep the skin glowing without the excess chemicals found in many store bought products.

Buttermilk Moisturizer

Buttermilk contains lactic acid which is one of the hydroxy acids that you always see advertized in all of the commercial cosmetics. These compounds act as exfoliants on the skin by breaking up and removing dry and dead skin cells.

To moisturize with buttermilk:

Wet a wash cloth in cold buttermilk. Place the wash cloth on an area of dry skin or irritated area for about five minutes. Rinse gently. You actually want to leave a thin layer of residue because of the lactic acid contained in buttermilk.

Advocado Moisturizer

Avocados are also high in fats and vitamins A, D and E, the later of which helps the skin retain moisture and helps reduce wrinkles.

To moisturize with advocado, cut an avocado open, then mash up its contents in a bowl. Put the avocado on a dry or irritated area of the skin for 10 to 15 minutes then rinse thoroughly.

Olive Oil Moisturizer

Olive oil contains linoleic acid which is a natural compound found in our skin. This creates a barrier that prevents the skin from losing moisture by creating a water barrier. However, linoleic acid is not produced naturally in our bodies, so it must be gotten from food sources, either through diet, or applied topically.

To moisturize with olive oil, put olive oil on a dry or irritated area of the skin and let it remain. Additionally, you can add some olive oil to a warm bath for an all over body moisturizer. No rinsing needed.
