10 Ways to Achieve Your Goals

Everyone has something they're aiming at in life. Yet, not many happen to recognize that there are basic guidelines that could be applied to yield whatever they desire. Some think wishful thinking is all they need to get there, while ignorantly refusing to do what's required to succeed, thus defying the universal law of cause and effect that says, "for every effect there is a definite cause, likewise for every cause there is a definite effect." Did you know your actions manifest and create your life as you know it? However, following the right steps and procedures could quicken the actualization of your goals. Here are 10 surefire ways to reach your goal.

1. Know Exactly What You Want 

Being specific on what exactly you really want would determine to a large extent whether you achieve it or not. You can begin by asking yourself, "What would constitute a happy life for me?" "What would I have or do that would make me completely happy?" Over 2,300 years ago, Aristotle wrote that the ultimate aim of human life is to be happy. Hence, you ought to ask yourself and be clear about what you really want, and, that would make you happy. You would be able to focus your mind on doing only those things that align with what you want if you knew it distinctively.

2. Write it Down

Write your goals in specific and measurable detail. Writing down your goal makes it tangible because you can see, touch, read, and modify it if necessary. If it's not written down it won't be any different from a cigarette smoke that drifts away and disappears; also, you have a big chance of forgetting them hence no action would be taken towards achieving them. Writing your goal is a sure way of reminding yourself that there's something you're still aiming at. Remembering it will spur you to action and save your time from being spent on frivolous activities. 

3. Make Sure They Are in Line with Your Passion and Purpose

There's nothing worse than focusing your time and energy on something that wouldn't contribute much to your life after a few years from now. It wouldn’t be funny to notice your ladder was leaning against the wrong wall after arduously forcing your way through its top. It shows time and effort, that could have been utilized in a better way, had been exerted pointlessly on the wrong thing. You have to choose not to follow the trend and be in control of your life. It's good to know that we're not all journeying on the same route. So don't be tempted to join someone in a particular field just because he's doing well in it. You've got to do what really fits you and not what people deem fit for you.

4. Channel Your Mind Towards the Big Goal

Once you've written them down, imagine for a moment that you had the ability to achieve any one of them immediately. Which one goal, if you were to achieve it in 2 hours, would automatically help you achieve more of your other goals. Which one will this be? Take your pen and circle it. This goal becomes your major defining purpose. It becomes the organizing principle for your future activities. It will make you more purposeful and focused. Imagine if you were told, while in high school, that getting an ‘A’ in one subject will automatically guarantee 'A’s in five other subjects. I'm sure you'd find it easier to pass because it'll save you time and stress to a large extent. The same applies here with your goals. 

5. Make Them Big Enough to Impel You to Action

A big mistake people make in life is telling themselves their goals are too big for them to achieve. This kind of thinking actually manifests itself in their lives because a man's life would always reflect his thought pattern. Accordingly, they continue in this merry-go-round from negative thoughts to negative experiences. If you want to know if something can be achieved, ask yourself, "has anyone ever done it before?" If the answer is yes, then you can be sure you're well able to do the same. All you need is to be focused and persistent and you'd surely reach there one day. As the saying goes: "A journey of a thousand miles begins with a step." So be positive and think big.

6. Be Persistent

There's something failure cannot resist; it's persistence. Persistence is the main reason for success. In life, there are many things that could stand as a distraction or obstacle. It's always there's, but what matters is whether or not you condescend or give up. Persistent really makes the difference in life because you always have to pass a sort of "persistence test," but the good news is that it's only temporary; it's just for a while, and that why it's important that you hold on till you see your dream come true.

7. Stay Away from Negative People

Negativism is the last thing you need if you want to achieve your goals. Always surround yourself with only those who have belief in your ability to succeed. Negative folks will drain your passion out of you. They're the ones who have all the reasons why things cannot work out well. Never let them influence you wrongly. You were fashioned by God with immense ability to do anything. You're God's highest form of creation hence your ability to do anything. Stay positive about your goals all the time. Your new mantra should be: "I can be anything I want to be, I'm unstoppable!"

8. Prioritize

It has been said that if one fails to plan he has unwittingly planned to fail. You need to make a plan of the activities that will be done in a day. Spending every hour wisely on relevant tasks brings you closer to your goal than anything else. You need to make sure you plan. Set a whole series of related daily, weekly and long-term goals with starting times and completion dates. You need to know what you're to do next so you can measure your progress and improvement along the way. Your ability to set priorities and discipline yourself to adhere to it will go a long way in deciding whether or not you’ll achieve your goals.

9. Feel the "feeling" of Success

You need to set aside at least 10-15 minutes every day to imagine yourself with your goal already achieved. Visualizing is key because you cannot aim after what you've not grasped intuitively in form of pictures. You need to have a clear image of yourself being successful and happy. A soccer player who has only a faint image of the goal post would certainly find it hard to score a goal. The same applies here with anyone who doesn’t have a convincing image of how he wants his life to be. While visualizing, feeling the feeling of success is actually very important because your mind has the ability to attract towards you what you're feeling. As Napoleon Hill said, "Whatever the mind can conceive and believe it can achieve."

10. Do Something Everyday Towards the Achievement of Your Goals

Learn to take an action step towards the attainment of at least one goal every single day. Time spent wisely will certainly pay off especially when it's is spent towards the achievement of your goals. Self-discipline is crucial here because you have to do what you have to do whether you feel like it or not. Everyday, write down what you will do towards reaching your goal and stick to it. This is what separates those who wish they had something from those who actually have it. You can wish all you want, if you fail to do something towards your wish, you won't have it. So get to work and make your success closer than ever.
