I Do

Your wedding day is one of the most important days of your life (especially if you're still married). Making the vow to join with someone in holy matrimony is a milestone, and every year that you and your spouse are together should be celebrated.  That doesn't mean that every celebration has to be something grandiose or expensive.

A celebration can be a picnic for two in your backyard, a party for 200+ at a lavish venue, or it can be something in-between. Here are a 15 ways to celebrate your wedding anniversary.

When most people think about wedding anniversaries they think about traditional ways to celebrate, especially if it is a milestone year.  Some conventional ways to honor the day that you and your mate said "I Do" include a romantic candle light dinner, a party, or renewing your vows.

Candle Light Dinner:  Enjoy a romantic candle lit dinner at your favorite restaurant or a cozy private rendezvous in your home. Go "ol' skool" with tunes by Luther Vandross or Teddy Pendergrass, or keep the music amorous but contemporary with tunes by John Legend

Have a Party: Invite a few of your close friends and PARTY! Display photos from your wedding and even show your wedding video. Make it casual or formal, it's up to you.

Renew Your Vows: Would you like to take another walk down the aisle? Do it! Plan a mini wedding and renew your vows. You can renew them at a place of worship, the beach, a park, or even at home, pick a venue that either represents your original wedding day or where your relationship is now.

Sports and Relaxation

This is something that is sure to perk up the interests of all the husbands out there. Play a sport together or go to a sporting event. Invite close friends along and you've got a party.

Play "Around": Go out on the golf course and play a round of golf together. Then after 18 holes relax together with a couple's massage.

Sporting Event: Take in a game of baseball, basketball, football, or any other professional sporting event game together. When the game is over, regardless of whether your team won or lost, have a fun and delicious meal and don’t skip dessert!

Early Bird Walk: Take an early morning hike or walk. When you are done go out and have a big breakfast. Spend the entire day together doing whatever you want, except for one thing, work.

Planning an off year (2, 3, 9, 14, 18, etc.) anniversary can be as easy as picking up a boxed lunch of you and your love's favorite meal and going to a park or even your own backyard and having a picnic. Fun can be easy, but easy doesn't mean inferior.

Picnic: Pick up a readymade lunch or make your own, pack your favorite outside blanket and a few pillows, and have an old fashion picnic. For added fun bring a ball or some other outside toy like water squirt toys.

Amusement Park: Spend the day munching on your favorite junk food and riding roller-coasters or other fun amusement park rides. Be kids and forget your problems and responsibilities for one day.

Spend the Weekend at your Favorite Getaway: Do you and your hubby have a favorite vacation destination that is close enough to travel to for the weekend? If so, make your reservations now and take a day or two off from work for a long weekend.

Everyone enjoys going out to a good concert, play, or taking in the beauty of a museum. Go out with a group of your closest friends or just the two of you, it's your choice. The only rule is to have fun!

Concert: Plan ahead and purchase the best tickets you can afford for the concert of your choice. Go to dinner prior to the concert then enjoy dessert together after. To make the evening a bit more special, try to find a show by a performer who was popular when you got married or search for a revival concert, such as a 70's revival show.

Play: Go out to your favorite restaurant then watch a play. There are plenty to choose from, and some favorites are Wicked, Pippin, and Mary Poppins. If you're not much of a play person go see a comedian, laughing can only enhance the evening.

Museum: Spend the day strolling through your favorite museum. Discuss your favorite artifacts and ask someone to take your photo in front of them. Take everything in as you walk around the property, hand-in-hand.

Planning a romantic rendezvous is easy if you remember one thing, the greatest erogenous zone is between your ears. Romance is subjective and different for everyone, but there are definitely ways to create the atmosphere of romance, and the first thing to consider is music. If you've ever planned a hot and heavy date with the one you love, you know the importance of music. It adds an element of romance to your union and brings it to another level. Not only will playing slow, steamy songs set the mood but it will also help to enhance it. Here are my top songs to enjoy on a romantic evening or anytime.

Close the Door - Teddy Pendergrass: Known for his seductive lyrics, Teddy Pendergrass put the steam in steamy love songs. The lyrics are suggestive with phrases such as, "Let me give you what you’ve been waiting for."  The song is stimulatingly poetic and enough to create an atmosphere of romance. This is the perfect tune for an evening of romance.

Love Won't Let Me Wait - Luther Vandross:  This passionate arrangement provides all the romance and fantasy for your loving fling together. If you're looking for romance, you will never go wrong with the classic tunes by the one and only Luther Vandross. His songs are synonymous with love.

Let's Get It On - Marvin Gaye: This classic tune, released in 1973, has withstood the test of time. It is one of the most popular and well-known songs, and for some reason the more you listen to it the more you love it. For many couples, nothing says romance more than this classic tune.

Hi: Well done article and a good reminder that anniversaries are important. I've had 35 of them and...gulp...we both forgot at least 20 of them. You know, a week later we realize that another year has gone by. We did better this year, however. We went out to a nice restaurant, came home and sat with a fine wine and candlelight by the pond. It ended up to be a great day so, for you, two thumbs up and a rating.

These are great ideas. Usually we go out to dinner, but two years ago my husband took me to the Hollywood cemetery where Val Kilmer was doing a one-man show on Mark Twain. It was our most interesting anniversary date! It was a surprise, so I couldn't figure out why we were pulling into a cemetery! LOL
