2009-2010 Styles of Dresses Are Vintage and Retro Revisited

By | 0 Comments | Rating: 0 | |

In my younger years, from age 8-15, I would spend my evenings watching the AMC channel (that is the American movie classics channel). Every night tons of movies from the 40s, 50s and 60s were shown. Doris Day, Marilyn Monroe, Betty Grable and more were my idols at the time. I could watch That Touch of Mink a million times a day. There was something about the little fashion moments in each movie that really captured my attention. Those fantastic dresses with the frilly skirts, capped sleeves and lovely collars were so glamorous and feminine that I would daydream about them daily.

As I got older my appreciation for those women, and their fashion, grew. My tastes of course, changed and developed as I grew older. In my twenties, I found the incomparable Bettie Page and her fashions turned my world upside down. Polka dots, Peter Pan collars, black and white dresses, pencil skirts, halter necks and everything thing feminine and sexy in the dresses that I had loved since childhood. Of course back then those dresses were not in style (the 80s), but today they are coming back with a vengeance. Thanks to gorgeous women like Katy Perry and Dita Von Teese, we have a whole new array of women's fashionable dresses, and designers are taking notice.

While we have an array of vintage style 50s and 60s dresses, we also have some lovely new styles of sundresses for women. It seems that not only the 50s and 60s styles are back in fashion but 70s and 80s styles are coming back too.

The maxi dress is actually a throwback to the long hippie style dresses of the late 60s and early 70s. Those stylish, gauzy and light cotton dresses are soft and feminine and ultimately gorgeous. Even though most fall below the knees, and some even to the ankles, they are surprisingly cool and comfortable to wear during summer. This is mainly due to the breathable material from which they are made. Most of the new styles are also in the empire waist style, which can be very flattering for women who are self conscious of their curvier body parts.

If you're looking for some lovely summer dresses or even some vintage dresses, you can find them online and available at eBay or Amazon. Additionally many dresses can be found at various websites. Look for navy blue and white polka dotted dresses or some fantastic rockabilly style dresses for less than $60.
