In 2012, we are lucky enough to have about a dozen different laptop brands to choose from, but which one is the best? Well, the answer to that question depends mostly on which portable computer manufacturer makes the types of notebooks you are interested in, whether it's for college, business, or gaming. Every company is good for their own reasons, but in some cases, certain laptop brands are better than others for particular sets of functions. In this article we are going to provide reviews of the top 2 notebook computer companies for each demographic as well as the best models in 2012 for the given manufacturer.

Best Laptop Brands for College Students 2012

One of the major reasons that Dell is so highly-regarded for students is because of how cheap their notebooks often are. Those who attend universities or even just community schools are usually on a budget, and with the affordable models that Dell offers, it makes them an ideal laptop brand for any college student. Aside from their inexpensive prices, this portable computer company also manufacturers some of the most efficient and practical notebooks on the market, and have gained excellent reputation for themselves over the years.

Perhaps the best notebook to look for in 2012 if you're in school is the Dell Inspiron 1545, which is one of this laptop brand's most celebrated models and there are a variety of different styles and designs to choose from. They all come with powerful Intel Pentium processors, both single and dual-core types, as well as a Microsoft Windows 7 operating system and a wide range of nice features such as a built-in camera, Bluetooth and WiFi capabilities and DVD drives.

What is there to say about Apple that most consumers don't already know? They are easily among the best laptop brands regardless of what you need the notebook for. Apple is a very versatile company with models that are great for several different applications, and are especially beneficial to college students for their amazing functionality, portability, and overall reputation as a top-rated manufacturer.

The Apple MacBook Pro is a model that you'll definitely want to consider first, as it is probably the most popular notebook computer on the market in 2012. It comes with an Intel Pentium Core i5 or i7 processor depending on which version decide to buy. As a laptop brand known for their reliability, you can't really go wrong with any of their notebooks, but the MacBook Pro is ideal for college students with its long battery life, sufficient storage space and fun features like a DVD drive and touchpad.

Best Laptop Brands for Business - 2012

Here is a laptop brand that is extremely reliable and efficient, and has had an amazing reputation as one of the most popular computer manufacturers for several decades now. Hewlett-Packard is known for always having the best technology and many of their models are perfect for those who are in business for this reason as well as their portability, which is important if you happen to travel a lot for work.

The HP ProBook 4530s is a great model to consider as its not only stylish and relatively cheap at only about $350 on average, but also due to their versatility and durability. They come with a long list of amazing features that are not uncommon when it comes to this laptop brand, including powerful and fast Intel processors, touchpad capabilities, integrated webcams, extended battery lives, and Windows 7 operating systems.

There aren't really any laptop brands that focus more on business use than Lenovo, and they may be considered by many to be a company that specializes in these types of notebook computers. However, their models can be used for other functions as well. Lenovo doesn't pay nearly as much attention and detail to stylish looks as they do to overall performance and durability, which is a big reason why they are a popular laptop brand to buy for business.

The Lenovo ThinkPad Edge is easily the best option if you are interested in this company. Weighing about 5.3 pounds, it packs quite a bit of features in for its portable size, including 4 GB of RAM, 320 GB of hard drive space, increased performance and integrated graphics with the Intel Core processor technology, and Lenovo's own patented Enhanced Experience 2.0 which provides a super-fast boot-up and a range of wireless connectivity technologies.

Best Laptop Brands for Gaming - 2012

When it comes to multimedia notebooks, ASUS is a company that arguably reigns supreme in the industry with the exception of the next featured manufacturer. ASUS produces notebook computers that are perfect for entertainment purposes, and has rightfully earned themselves a reputation as of the most popular laptop brands to buy for gaming.

The ASUS G53Sw A1 is an awesome model in terms of function and performance, however it is quite expensive and it is difficult to find these gaming notebooks for under $1000. That being said, it is worth mentioning that you definitely get what you pay for as they come with tons of amazing features for multimedia purposes like a whopping 8 GB of RAM and 750 GB of hard drive space, allowing you to store an insane amount of games and applications. The best laptop brands for gaming should have excellent graphics and performance, and the ASUS G53Sw A1 easily meets these demands with the vivid high-definition 1920 x 1080 wide screen display and a fast and powerful processor.

This is a laptop brand that is known to be rather versatile, but they do have a few notebook computers that are great for multimedia and entertainment purposes. To be specific, the Toshiba Satellite has several models that are best for gaming, like the L755 and P755. These both come with Intel Core processors ranging from i3 to i7 and anywhere between 4 and 8 GB of RAM. They also have quite a few cool features such as a High-Definition TruBrite display, integrated Harmon Kardon speakers for the best audio experience possible, and a relatively long battery life.

Taking all of these top-rated notebook computer companies into consideration, you should have a pretty good idea on which are the best laptop brands to buy for your personal needs in 2012.

Really great article! I love your formatting by the way. Definitely inspiring some new formats on some articles of mine to come. I personally use an Apple Macbook Pro, and am in college as well. While it is an expensive computer, it is also durable and I have no fears of it crashing on me. I bought mine about 2-3 years ago, and it works just like it did when I opened the box. Never had an issue, definitely worth the $1,000 dollars I spent on it. Unlike other PC computers that fail on me several times a year.
