My Findings for the Most Popular Toys on Amazon

Christmas 2013 is creeping up on us fairly quickly, and it’s time to think about gifts for your loved ones.  I find that waiting for Black Friday sales are risky, as there is no guarantee of product availability, and the products sold are usually last-years models, or cheap versions of the full featured product you really want.  Black Friday is actually called what it is, because the retailers are trying to get their accounting books out of the red, and back into the black.Christmas Toys - Blocks

In this article, I decided to write something seasonal, and see if I could help sort out for you the top Christmas gifts for kids.  This article will focus on toys for boys around the ages of 2 - 4 years old.  I based my research on how popular the toy is in its category, and how many positive reviews it has received compared to unfavorable.  I also considered the item's price, because I'm assuming that if you are shopping for young children's Christmas gifts, your likely be buying more than one thing, and don't want to spend too much money on one thing.  Finally, I selected only products that feature free shipping.  When shopping for Christmas presents, shipping costs can add up to the cost of what could have been another gift.  Save your cash, don't waste it on shipping.  Amazon often features free shipping on certain products that cost over $25, but some of these products below require your order to be over $35, which isn't hard to do when buying Christmas presents.

I also took a look at the Consumer Products Safety Commission website, to make sure I'm not recommending anything here that is un-safe for your child.  This is a site I recommend that all parents visit and sign up for product recall alerts from.

Hope you enjoy the list, and happy Christmas shopping!

2. Little Tikes EasyScore Basketball Set

This is one of those traditional toys a kid has growing up.  This model is designed for children 18 months to 5 years old, and includes a junior-sized, soft inflatable basketball.  The netted rim is oversized, so scoring is more attainable, which results in more smiles and feel-good moments in your child.  This model also adjusts to 1 of 6 different heights, from 2 - 4 feet.  The base has a port through which you add clean sand for stability.  This toy can be setup indoors or outdoors.  There are about 450 reviews for this toy, and almost all positive.  Free shipping applies if you order this and other items which total over $35.

3. Megabloks Big Building Bag, 80-Piece

Hand and Eye Coordination Toy for Small Hands

I think that Legos are one of the world's best toys for kids.  They also make a sub-brand for young children called Duplo.  But for even younger future-builders, you should take a look at Megabloks.  These building bricks are nice and big, and assemble easily for kids with small hands, who are learning hand-eye coordination.  The product I've found features 80 pieces in various colors, a PVC-free storage bag, contains a 4 x 4 attachable base with wheels, to help get those creations mobile.

4. Earlyears Roll n Swirl Ball Ramp

Let 'em Roll!

Here's a great coordination/action toy that looks like a lot of fun for kids.  It's like a scaled down version of the older kids-style marble ramps.  Your child gets to place whirly swirly looking balls at the top of a 5-tier tower, and watches as they find their way to the bottom through holes in each ramped segment.  The balls are large enough so that your child can't choke on them, and they also rattle when dropped, as they contain noise making beads.  The toy breaks down when needed for easier storage.  You can get free shipping on this if you buy it in conjunction for other items that total over $35.  It has about 210 reviews, which are nearly all positive.

5. VTech - Rhyme and Discover Book

There are probably a few reasons why VTech hasn't changed this toy much over the years:  it's robust, kids like it, the batteries last seemingly forever, and it’s easy to operate.  This is an electronic 'book' that has 3 light-up characters on the sides of the pages.  You press the character faces and they blink and play sounds or phrases.  The book will sing 7 different popular nursery rhymes, has a low and high volume level setting, and a big music note button right on the front.  There are 4 movable pieces attached to the pages (non-removable).  As with the products above, you can get free shipping on this if you include it in an order totaling $35 or more.  There are about 250 customer reviews, which are almost entirely positive.
