21 Suggestions for Your 21st Birthday

By Edited Aug 6, 2016 0 0

So you need some ideas for your 21st birthday? Here is a list that I put together for a friend and it seemed appropriate to share it here. The list is in no particular order and for my friend it served as more of a bucket list than a list of suggestions for his actual 21st birthday.

- Go to a liquor store and by a bottle of anything. How many times have you wished you could just walk into a liquor store and buy a bottle of booze? Well, now you can!

- Walk into a bar and order yourself a drink. Pretty self explanatory. This one is a no brainer, and whether you do it on your actual birthday or sometime thereafter, this is the one thing on the list I guarantee everyone will do at some point in their life so you might as well get it out of the way.

- Go with a couple of friends to a local micro brewery and do a beer tasting. Everyone loves beer, right? Find a local micro brewery and find out when they do their public tastings and try some styles you might otherwise be afraid of.

- Take your significant other to a winery. Looking for something a little slower paced? Wineries are popping up everywhere so there has got to be one close to you. Many offer overnight accommodations so you can easily make a romantic weekend out of it.

- Go to Vegas! Does this really need any explanation? It's almost a rite of passage to visit Las Vegas on or near your 21st birthday.

- Take a trip to the Caribbean. Personally this is my favorite. A week at an All-Inclusive Resort in Jamaica is a lot more affordable than you think. And All-Inclusive means free food, free drinks, free water sports, and just about everything else you can think of.

- Host a huge party at your house. Break out the BBQ and go all out. You can bring in a bartender, casino tables, a DJ, clowns, magicians, and just about anything else you can think of and go big! Throw the party of a lifetime that everyone will talk about for years to come.

- Go to dinner at the most expensive restaurant in town. We've all heard about that fancy restaurant where a steak costs $75. Make yourself a reservation and bon a petit.

- Go skydiving. This is not really my cup of tea, but if you're a thrill seeker this might be right up your alley.

- Spend a night in a fancy hotel. Grab your girl (or guy) and reserve a room at the nearest Marriott, Hyatt, or Hilton. Go early so you can enjoy the pool or any other amenities they have to offer.

- Have a Toga Party. Toga! Toga! Everyone has seen Animal House so you know what I'm talking about here.

- Take a group of friends on a pub crawl. You can either rent a limo, or literally crawl from bar to bar, either way just don't overdo it.

- Have an 80's TV character theme party. Invite all of your friends over and ask them to dress up like their favorite character from an 80's TV show. Maybe try to limit the amount of Miami Vice costumes!

- A day at the spa. Everyone can use a little pampering, men and women.

- Go buy yourself an expensive pair of shoes. For years I always bought cheap shoes, then one day a friend gave me an expensive pair of Italian dress shoes, and wow! Ever since then I have spared little expense when it comes time to replace my daily work shoes. If you think about it, you're in your work shoes longer than any other pair of shoes in your closet so why not wear the best?

- Take your best friend or significant other on a road trip. Get out your map and draw a large circle around the city you live in. By large circle I mean about 500 miles in every direction, next pick a location in the circle that you have never visited. Load up the car and head there for a weekend. You won't really know what to expect until you get there, and it's guaranteed to create some great memories.

- Visit New York City. Everyone should visit New York City at least once in their life, whether to celebrate your 21st birthday or just to experiance the Big Apple. Unless you live in one of the other large cities on the East Coast, you just have no idea what you're in for. The fast pace, tall buildings, pizzerias…it just can't be explained.

- Buy a pair of the really expensive seats at a sporting event. One year for my birthday my wife bought us two tickets to a Major League baseball game in the seats right behind home plate. Now the view of the game was spectacular, but what made it even more amazing was that the seats included a restaurant and bar under the stadium that was reserved for only people in our section. It was first class all the way and I can't wait to do it again.

- Take a trip to Hollywood. No matter what kind of excitement you're looking for, I'm sure you can find it in Hollywood. From Disneyland to the Sunset Strip, the greater Los Angeles area has something for everyone.

- Rent a sports car. I don't know about you, but I've always wanted to drive a Porsche. Most cities have a high end car rental agency that specializes in exotic cars. Just make sure your insurance is up to date!

- Take up a new sport. Maybe you've always wanted to golf or play tennis, or maybe you have dreamed of flying down the mountain on a snowboard? Grab your best friend and book a trip to the nearest ski resort, many areas of the country have snow for more than 6 months every year so you should be able to find an open resort within a few months of your birthday.

Hopefully this list of 21st birthday ideas will be useful for some of you. I know there are some things on the list that I still haven't done but certainly hope to. Enjoy your big day!
