21st Birthday Cake Ideas for Guys
A 21st birthday is a big milestone and a time when guys are finally permitted to drink alcohol, gamble in Las Vegas and visit select strip clubs. Whether the birthday boy is involved in any of these activities or not, celebrating with a cake featuring one of these themes is fun and it creates a great conversation piece.
Beer Mug Cake
Celebrate his 21st birthday with a larger than life beer mug cake. Stack four six inch cakes together to form the mug. Frost the cake with a beer colored frosting such as store bought caramel frosting. A handle for the mug can be cut from a piece of cardboard or formed on wax paper with melted peanut butter flavored Candy Melts. Top the cake with a six inch diameter meringue cookie to mimic a foamy head on your beer mug cake. Meringue cookies are fluffy white cookies made by beating together egg whites and sugar. See the resources for a simple meringue cookie recipe.
Bikini Cake
Present the birthday boy with a sexy lady in cake form. The shape of the cake looks complex but is easily created with two eight inch or nine inch heart shaped pans. Cut the bottom tip off of each heart cake and place the cakes end to end on a serving platter. The narrow center is the waist of the cake. Trim away the bottom of the lower heart to form shapely hips. Create breasts by attaching two cupcakes to the top of the cake with frosting. Frost the entire cake with frosting tinted to your desired skin tone with liquid food coloring. Roll fondant approximately 1/4 inch thick and cut out a bikini top and bottom. Press the swim suit gently onto the cake.
Poker Table Cake
Create a cake in the shape of a poker table by using a hexagon shaped cake pan. If you do not have a hexagon pan, trim away the sides of a large round cake to form a hexagon. Cover the cake with green fondant to look like the green felt on a poker table. Add black fondant to the edges of the table to give it a realistic appearance. Once the basic cake is finished, decorate with edible poker chips and playing cards. Poker chips are simple to make by using a small round cookie cutter to cut discos out of various colors of fondant. Playing cards can be created by cutting rectangles out of white fondant and adding detail to them with edible markers. These markers are sometimes found in grocery stores or craft stores.
