What is a 3D Jigsaw Puzzle?
There are essentially two different types of 3D puzzles. One is much like the original jigsaw puzzles because it is actually 2D to the untrained eye, and the other type is literally 3D, standing upwards from a table. Both are very different from the original jigsaw puzzle but can be very fun depending on what you are looking for.
An upward standing 3D jigsaw puzzle is like other jigsaw puzzles in the fact that there are numerous pieces that you have to find and put together, however, a 3D jigsaw puzzle is not flat. It will often expand upwards modeling skyscrapers, mountains, or many other famous landmarks.
The other type of 3D puzzle is basically the same as normal puzzle except for the end result. After you finish this type of 3D puzzle you can put on a pair of 3D glasses and the puzzle will pop out. These usually aren't very hard but are very appealing to younger children. A great example would be the 24-piece "Where's Waldo 3D Jigsaw Puzzle". If you haven't heard of the "Where's Waldo" series, basically it's a game where you have to find Waldo in different scenes. The 3D puzzle form is a great plus for children though.
Different 3D Jigsaw Designs for Different People
The most common pop up 3D puzzle design has a square base and cardboard pieces resembling a normal jigsaw puzzle but these days the puzzles have advanced to even having stand alone 3D jigsaw puzzles that resemble anything you could think of. The most popular 3D jigsaw puzzles tend to be the ones resembling popular monuments like the White House, Statue of Liberty, or even castles. Don't think that that's all there is though. You can often find puzzles resembling anything from classic cars, such as the 1956 Ford Thunderbird, to science fiction related puzzles, such as the Millennium Falcon from Star Wars. If you are looking for something a little more practical there are even puzzles in the shape of a rotating globe or a nice little apple to give to that special teacher friend in your life.
