3 Diet and Weight Loss Mistakes to Avoid

Many people find that, when dieting, their weight loss journey has suddenly come to a screeching halt. Has this happened to you? Here are three common reasons dieters may not be making any progress towards losing weight that may be able to help you out:

You're eating more than you realize

Most people trying to lose weight are unsure of serving sizes and don't keep track of the calories they consume per day. By understanding what an acceptable serving size for different foods looks like, those looking to lose weight will be able to more accurately estimate the amount of food they're consuming per meal. Remember, in order to lose weight, it's necessary to burn more calories a day than what you take in on a daily basis.

Keep in mind that a serving of meat is going to be smaller in general than the serving size for foods high in carbohydrates. A typical portion of meat is about the size of a deck of playing cards, while a serving of carbs is about the size of a baseball. It's also important to fill up on vegetables, which are low in starch. These foods contain precious nutrients and don't contain many calories.

You're not eating frequently enough

In our society, it is considered the norm to eat three full meals a day. Although it may seem a bit inconvenient, dieters looking to lose weight should strive to eat meals more frequently. To lose weight, one should eat at least five or six small meals every day. Doing so lets your body know that food is abundant and there is no need to store extra energy in the form of fat.

Another weight loss benefit to eating more than three meals in a day is that in can increase your metabolism rate. This is due to the fact that your body will remain busy digesting meals, which burns calories.

Lastly, eating more small meals throughout the day will minimize the body's hunger levels, which is especially useful for those trying to lose weight. By not letting a lot of time pass between meals, your blood sugar levels stabilize, thus preventing hunger.

You try to drink your calories instead of eating them

A lot of dieters in this modern age are depending on liquid meal replacements as a result of so many diet smoothies and diet shakes that are available on the market. This is not necessarily the healthiest option. These diet drinks are often high in sugar and will cause a surge of energy, followed by a crash. This is not a good thing if you're looking to lose weight and stay healthy

Also, these "healthy" drinks won't fill you up as much as healthier foods. The contain concentrated amounts of calories yet leave the dieter hungry for more. Instead of relying on diet shakes and smoothies, stick with fruits and vegetables for a healthy way to stave off hunger.
