3 Steps to Becoming an Affiliate Marketer

By Edited Jul 5, 2015 1 1

Many people are starting a second career as an affiliate marketer, for many great reasons. The main reasons are that you can often make a lot of quickly, right from the comfort of your own home, any hours you like. The amount of money is unlimited if you are selling products that people really want, and it does not cost anything to get started right away.

Best of all, there are only three simple steps to follow to become an affiliate marketer.

1-Register as an Affiliate Member

In order to start earning money online as an affiliate, you first need to register with legitimate sites that pay affiliates a commission. The top sites are ClickBank and PayDotCom. You will also need a PayPal account so you can have your commissions paid into your account quickly and conveniently. Be sure to fill out all the forms carefully in order to create your account, especially the banking information so that you can be sure you will get paid properly.

2-Choose Your Products to Sell

This is even more important than the first step. You need to make sure you are going to pick products that it will be worth your time and effort to sell. Go into the ClickBank Marketplace, for instance, and look at all the products for sale. Then do the same for PayDotCom. Also be sure to follow up with PayPal. It does not have any products to sell directly but follow the instructions in order to become a verified seller at their site. As you are looking through all the products in the marketplaces, keep 3 main points in mind.

First of all, how much does the product cost, and how much commission (percentage of the list price) will you get on it. Is the price point and the commission going to be high enough to be worth the time and effort you are going to take to promote it? As a general rule, do not waste your time on any product that is less than $20 unless they give a huge commission. By the way, PayDotCom will have the highest commissions. ClickBank pays a maximum of 75%. Second, look at the 'gravity' of the product; the higher this number, the more affiliates are out there selling it. If the number is very low, it might be an old or a bad product that does not convert, so you don't want any product that has a gravity which is too high or low. Aim for a middle ranking if you want to find a good-converting product so you can earn money without having to fight off the competition.

The third thing to consider is if you would actually buy the product yourself. If it has a good sales letter than grabs your interest, then chances are it will be a winner with your customers as well. As a general rule, you should always pick a topic that you are either already interested in, or are eager to learn more about. You will be spending a lot of time as an affiliate and it is good to pick something interesting that you are knowledgeable about or can sustain enthusiasm for over the long haul. Once you've found a product that meets all these criteria, it's time to create your special affiliate link.

3-Advertise Your Website

The key to being a successful affiliate marketer is promoting your products well through your special affiliate link. Use it everywhere you can, without being too spammy. Try your Facebook page, forums, your email signature file, and more. Participate in online, leave helpful comments in blogs, and you will soon see traffic through your link, and sales.

Affiliate marketing is one of the fastest ways to start making money online. Follow these three simple steps above and you too can have your own affiliate marketing business in next to no time.
