3 Time Tested Ways to Keep Yourself Motivated

At some point in our lives we all have been discouraged or felt like giving up at something.  Usually, we later look back and regret doing so.  Whether it is losing weight, earning income, or trying to improve at a sport, these time tested motivation tips will get you back on your feet in no time!

1) Why Are You Doing This? - To get motivated again to do something, you first have to remember why you are doing it.  For example, if you want to get motivated to go to the gym you might tell yourself that the reason you want to go to the gym is to lose weight.  Yes, but you need to think further than that.  Why do you want to lose weight?  Some possible answers would be “to improve my health so I can keep up with the kids,” “so I can live a longer, healthier life,” or “so I can fit into my tight jeans again.”  These are all reasons behind why you are doing what you are doing.  Remembering this will help you stay motivated.

2) Be Held Accountable - Nobody wants to look like a failure in front of others.  That is why you should let everybody know about your intentions and goals.  Post it on your Facebook, Twitter, talk to your friends and family about it, do whatever you have to do to spread the word that you are going to achieve your goal.  If you reach your goal, you can proudly tell everyone you did.  If you didn’t you risk making yourself look like a lazy failure.  This will keep you motivated, knowing that other people are following your progress, and that you don’t want to let them down.

3) Find a Reward - Although achieving your goal will have it’s own benefit in itself, find some physical reward to give yourself.  Whether it may be a new pair of clothes, a night out to eat, or a day at the spa, write it down and post it where you will see it every day.  Make sure it is something you have been wanting really badly.  This will keep you motivated knowing that all you have is reach your goal and you will receive this reward!

  By following these tips, you will be back on track and ready to achieve your goal!  Make sure to break up your goals into mini-goals so that you know you are making progress after each of those mini-goals is completed.  The most important thing is to just get started!  You’re never going to accomplish your goals if you spend all your time reading internet articles about it!  Just do it!  Drop everything, plan your goals, and take your first step towards achieving them!  It’s that simple!
