3 Types of Sectional Garage Doors
There are three basic types of sectional overhead garage doors. These are tilt up garage doors, single panel garage doors and roll up garage doors. The most popular and most widely used kind is the roll up garage doors as they are economical, easy-to-install and work well. These come in four different kinds of materials in wonderful designs, colors and styles.
Roll up doors come in a number of panels, usually 3 to 6 with 5 to 6 panels being the most common. These lift on a track and store themselves against the ceiling when opened. They require no additional space for opening and closing and are easy to use. Most have an automatic garage door opener that operates these with the click of a button. A remote is carried in the automobile and used to open and close the door when entering or leaving the garage. The automatic garage door opener is powered by electricity and has an electric operated opener by the man door or side door in the garage. Most openers have a timed light, which turns on when the sectional overhead garage doors are moved and light up the interior space for the convenience of the driver.
The various materials that are used in the manufacture of sectional garage doors are wood, aluminum, fiberglass and steel. Wood is a very popular product that may be heavy and requires maintenance as it needs to be painted and protected from the weather. It may warp and even split under adverse weather conditions. Fiberglass is extremely lightweight, durable and popular. It does crack in cold weather or when struck. Aluminum is also lightweight and rust and corrosion resistant so is a good choice in areas that are damp, salty and wet. The most popular material is steel; it is affordable and offers a high level of security as it is hard break open.
Each section of the garage has its own door that is smaller and lighter to use. These doors come in a variety of colors and styles; there is a color and style that will enhance the look of any home. These doors are often insulated to increase the energy efficiency and comfort of the sectional garage. The insulation most commonly used is polyurethane, a sprayed on product done in two-part application and sprayed on the inside of the door. The other choice is polystyrene which comes in panels and must be adhered to the inside of the door. Either choice improves the comfort level of this space.
