But You Can Eat Them Everyday

Apples are fine, and oranges are okay, but there are a lot more choices out there for eating healthy fruits. So what are some alternative healthy fruits? The following list of unusual fruits have a wide range of health benefits, from vitamins and minerals to preventing illness. And all of them can be enjoyed by themselves, mixed into fruit smoothies, ice cream, or a wide variety of other snack options. When all is said and done, these are great fruits with a lot of health benefits, and eating more of these nutritious fruits shouldn't be a problem because of how delicious they are.


1. Bananas

Bananas are definitely a healthy fruit, as they are full of potassium, B-vitamins, and magnesium. They also naturally lower your blood pressure and cholesterol. Some people say an apple a day will keep the doctor away, but honestly, when it comes to a healthy diet full of fruity benefits, maybe we should be saying a banana a day will keep that doctor away. After all, they help improve everything from bones, kidneys, eyesight, and blood pressure. Yes, let's go ahead and say it: bananas are nature's most perfect food.

But for all that, personally, I'm not a huge fun of eating bananas on their own. I'm not the hugest fan of banana texture, but thankfully there is a simple solution for that. All you have to do is blend those bananas up into a banana smoothie! Much better. And with the opportunity to add other fruits and ingredients for richer flavors and new tastes, I think it would be foolish not to eat every banana in smoothie form. But maybe that's just me.


2. Avocado

Sorry, it's a terrible pun, but I couldn't resist. Anyway, avocados are also right up there as one of the healthiest fruits you can eat. Their great health fruit benefits would even lead some to refer to avocados as a super food. But there are also people who don't even know that avocados are a fruit. They fall into that same misunderstood category as tomatoes, where a lot of people think these fruits are vegetables.

Whatever you want to call avocados, you certainly can't call them slackers in the healthy fruit benefits department. Avocados can lower cholesterol and allow the body to absorb more fat-soluble nutrients like beta-carotene. And they are filled with the requisite Vitamins B and E.

What a lot of people don't know about avocados is how well they work as a dessert. Try an avocado smoothie or avocado ice cream at least once in your life. You won't be disappointed.


3. Grapefruit

Too tart or tangy for many people, grapefruit can definitely be described as an acquired taste. But once you do acquire it, you'll love these unique healthy fruits for life, and start to eat more of them regularly. Grapefruits contribute to your well-being with healthy fruit benefits that will give you increased vigor, energy, and a clearer head.

First of all, grapefruits are full of naringin, a neat little flavonoid that helps to identify and reject toxins in the body. Grapefruits also have the widest range of vitamins yet on this list of healthy fruits, with A, B, C, E, and K.

For years, many people have used grapefruits in conjunction with high-protein, low-carbohydrate diets to encourage weight loss. This has often been called the Grapefruit Juice Diet. And while it won't do all of the work of helping you lose weight (for that you also need the right diet and exercise program), studies have shown that there is a positive correlation for eating grapefruit once a day and losing a couple of pounds. So what are you waiting for? Add half a grapefruit to your breakfast and start the day off right with its healthy fruit benefits.

4. Goji Berries

Last, but definitely not least on this list of beneficial healthy fruits, goji berries are a fruit with a relatively recent increase in popularity in America. Commonly sold in a dried form, goji berries (also called wolfberries) are absolutely packed with Vitamin C.  And since you can eat them without much preparation, goji berries mixed with nuts like almonds make a quick, healthy snack.

Some of the other healthy fruit benefits of goji berries include being a rich source of antioxidants, which helps to improve circulation and keep eyesight sharp. Preliminary studies also suggest that goji berries may help to prevent some forms of cancer, but that's not yet been clinically proven.

Goji berries are a tangy fruit with a bit of sweetness to them, but it's not always easy to find them to buy at the store. You may have to go out of your way to purchase them from a health food store or online, and the price can set you back a pretty penny as well (they cost about a $1 per ounce). But if you want to try an interesting new fruit with a unique flavor, they are worth it.
