4 Unbelievable Ways Cars Have Been Used - What will you do with your old car?

By Edited Feb 7, 2016 0 0

You might think of your car as simply a suitable and fast way of getting from A to B. And of course, it is. But what about using it for something else? Sure, it might be an expensive piece of decoration, but maybe the car doesn't work anyway, so at least you could put it to some practical or fun use, right? Here are some unbelivable ways that people have used cars that have nothing to do with transportation...

1.     As a shower...

Some people live in their cars, but not many of those people shower too often. Fortunately help is at hand with the shower car. This is seriously a thing... The car is plumbed into a mains water source, and multiple shower heads come out of the body of the car. All the seats are waterproof, obviously. So you can just sit in the driver's seat (or lie in the back if you're feeling lazy) and get a steaming hot shower. As a bonus, if you roll the windows up it doubles as a sauna. You can always roll them back down again if theings get too steamy...

2.     As a Fireplace

Again, a very non traditional use of a vehicle. The car in question was upended so that it was literally standing on its front bumper. The bonnet and windscreen were taken off, and a chimney flue installed that directed smoke out of the exhaust pipe. The empty engine compartment was then used as a fire place. Thankfully, this was done outside in the garden, so nobody's house burnt down. Pretty creative, but we've got an extra innovation. What about leaving the bonnet on and propping it up? That way you could use it as a barbecue grill...

3.     As Storage...

Surprisingly, this is actually a fairly common way of using an old vehicle, particularly in the United States. People who don't want to pay for expensive storage space instead lock their stuff into a disused car in a garage. Since garage rent is cheaper than storage space (storage space is required to have climate control and electricity, garages aren't), people end up saving money. Your stuff is relatively safe inside the locked vehicle, and isn't going to get wet, so maybe it's not such a bad option...

4.     As a Foosball Table...

This is maybe our favourite alternative use for a vehicle. The car was stripped inside, and a level wooden board used to cover the inside surface of the car at the height of the bottom of the front and rear windows. This board was used as the surface for the table, with the foosball handles inserted through the body work of the car. Playing foosball was easy, and you could view the whole game through the windows. Plus, since the game was contained inside the car, there was no chance of the ball jumping off the table and getting lost. We're not sure what you're supposed to do when the ball gets stuck in the corner though...

. . . . .

Don't let your old car be boring. Think of all the other uses that you could put it to. At the very least you can decorate it with scrap metal and paint and make a little artwork for your driveway. Cars are pretty useful for getting you to the shops, and to work, of course. But they can be useful in other ways too. We don't recommend using a Mercedes or an SUV as a foosball table though, you might want to stick with a Mini for that one.
