4 Ways on How to Lower Car Insurance Premiums

By Edited Feb 10, 2014 0 1

Car insurance is purchased with the aim of providing financial assistance to drivers when a car accident happens. Because of the help it provides to the insured driver, his passengers, and even the other driver involved in the accident, states have imposed a law which requires drivers to purchase one before they are allowed to sit behind the wheel.

In California, drivers should have liability insurance. It protects them from financial losses, especially if they were at fault in the accident. Remember, it only shoulders the expenses that were incurred by the other driver, not your own.

Car insurance may be expensive for drivers, especially for those who are only earning enough to sustain their daily needs like food, house, and clothing. It is natural that you would want to lessen you premiums so that you will have enough resources to buy things that are more important for you and your family.

In order to lower your car insurance premiums, it is advisable that you do the following:

  • Compare the prices of car insurance being sold by different companies- Even if you are currently insured, you can still talk to other insurance companies and find out if they are offering a lower premium. Remember, though your insurance company has offered you a good deal, it does not mean that such deal is the best one for you.
  • Determine if the car you are planning to buy is prone to accidents- If you want to buy a brand new or second hand car, you should first know if that certain model has been involved in many accidents. For examples, sport utility vehicles are more prone to rollovers compared to trucks or other types of vehicles.
  • Combine the policies - You will likely pay a reduced amount of car insurance premiums if all the drivers or car owners who are living in one household have one policy or were insured by one insurance company.
  • Know if there are discounts that are being offered by the insurance company- Today, many companies are giving discounts to the following:

o Employees who use carpool or public transit when going to the office

o Students who have an excellent academic record

o Drivers who have taken defense driving lessons

o Drivers who were been involved in an accident or did not receive traffic citations within the recent years

If you have more questions about car insurance premiums, do not hesitate to contact a Los Angeles personal injury lawyer.

What I recommend is that people increase their deductible a little bit because the higher the deductible the lower the premiums will be.
