I have two boys in college. Both know how to spend money. In fact, I think they are majoring in spending Dad’s dough! Here are four tips I gave them, to earn a little spare cash.

 Tip #1

Get a roommate or two!

My sons live independently. Well, what I mean by that is, they rented two, three bedroom apartments. I suggested that they get a roommate or two and charge them rent. Since our boy’s scholarships cover their living expenses, this is a great way to make passive income. Also, they are gaining great business experience being landlords! My eldest, advertised for four roommates placing two roomies in each of the spare bedrooms, and now that makes bank!

 Tip # 2

Be a subject!

Universities advertise frequently for research test subjects. Being part of a study is an easy way to make a little money. Long-term studies often pay more!

 Tip #3

Tutoring is a great way to supplement your income! Advertise on campus and/or at the local high schools and middle schools. Remember to find where the international students hang out, too! They can be a great source of income when it comes to tutoring.

Jump-start your entrepreneurial ambitions! Start an internet business selling things on craigslist or ebay. Start a cleaning business, where you find the cleaning jobs, then hire another student to work for you (for cheap!) Do odd jobs. Be a street performer. Become a secret shopper. Join gigwalk. You can even take surveys for cash! Get on out there and start a business!

There are hundreds of ways to earn a little cash if you are willing to search it out. One of my very good friends in college (a finance major of course!), made money going to college! He not only got his entire education paid for through scholarships, he made money while there! So if you are getting depressed over student loans, and have very little spending money, try a few or all of these ways to earn some green. There is a lot of opportunity out there, you just have to be willing to find it! That said… I am still waiting for the phone call from one of my boys asking me to go for lattes at Starbucks. On them!
