5 Delicious and Easy Dip Recipes

Why Include Dips at a Party?

Dips are delicious and they provide your guests with choices. To satisfy a wider range of guests at your party or special occasion, variety of foods is key to pleasing everybody. Dips are easy to prepare in advance and packed full of flavor and the great thing is that so many different vegetables and breads can go with them. Using fresh ingredients you can create dips at home yourself which saves you money and helps you avoid consuming all the additives and preservatives that stores add to these products to prolong their shelf lives. Ultimately, it is cheaper to make your own dips at home and you have the added benefit of knowing all the ingredients that went into making it. So let’s take a look at 5 tasty and easy dips you can make within a very short time frame and with minimal ingredients. All 5 of these dip recipes will serve approximately 5 to 10 people, so adjust the quantities of your ingredients accordingly if you have more or less people to make them for.

1. Easy Guacamole

This is a classic dip and one that everybody loves. Use ripe avocados as they will be easier to chop and mash up. This one is always best made very close to the time when your guests are arriving due to the avocados during brown in the air. But as it is so simple to put together, hopefully 5-10 minutes should be long enough to create this delicious dip.

Ingredients

  • 2 avocados peeled, chopped and with the stones removed
  • 1 clove of garlic, finely chopped
  • 1 small red onion, finely chopped
  • 1 lime, juiced
  • Salt and pepper
  • Coriander leaves to garnish

Step 1 of 1

In a small to medium bowl, mash the avocados up using a fork then add the garlic, onion and lime juice. Add salt and pepper to taste and the coriander leaves to garnish on top. Done! Serve with nachos or cheese and onion crisps for a delicious combination of flavors.

2. Special Salsa

It is always nice to have at least one brightly colored and spicy dip at a party, adding sparkle to your buffet or party spread of foods! This easy salsa recipe does not take long to prepare and will really add a hint of panache to your table. As with the guacamole recipe, there are seven key ingredients needed. However, here we have two further optional two ingredients you may wish to include depending on your personal tastes and preferences. Experiment with the flavors and find what works best for you.

Ingredients

  • 5 tomatoes, peeled and chopped
  • 1 small red onion, finely chopped
  • 1 clove of garlic
  • 1 tbsp tomato paste
  • 1 tsp of lemon or lime juice (personal preference)
  • Salt and pepper
  • Coriander leaves to garnish
  • 1 red chili or 2 green chilies (optional)
  • Sweetcorn (optional)

Step 1 of 1

In a medium sized pan, simply add all the ingredients and simmer on a low heat for 10 minutes. Allow to cool and then serve with crisps or sticks of vegetables. Spicy and delicious!

3. Cheese and Chives

A nice and mild dip, cheese and chives can be a real crowd-pleaser dip so why not have a go at this quick and simple recipe to make it.

Ingredients

  • 75g of cheddar cheese, grated
  • 2 spring onions, finely chopped
  • 1 clove of garlic, finely chopped
  • 2 tbsp chives, chopped
  • 3 tbsp mayonnaise
  • 2 tbsp natural yogurt
  • Salt and pepper

Step 1 of 1

Add all the ingredients to a bowl and mix them together, it really is a simple as that! Add salt and pepper to taste. To adjust the consistency, add more yogurt and mayonnaise in 1 teaspoon amounts at a time. This particular dip is great with crisps, or vegetables such as carrots, bright red and yellow bell peppers and cucumber.

4. Sour Cream and Onion

Essentially quite similar to the cheese and chives recipe, the sour cream and onion dip offers a more subtle taste which will complement a wide range of vegetables and flavors of crisps. So for those that simply don’t like the taste of cheese, this sour cream recipe will hopefully offer you a tasty alternative.

Ingredients

  • 100ml sour cream
  • 2 tbsp chives, chopped
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 clove of garlic
  • 1 red onion, finely chopped
  • Salt and pepper
  • (optional 1 tbsp white wine vinegar)

Step 1 of 1

Add all the ingredients to a medium sized mixing bowl and gently combine. Add salt and pepper to taste and white wine vinegar if you have it available. Serve with fresh bell peppers, cucumber, celery, crisps or nachos. Often a spicier flavor such as paprika crisps or chili nachos can really complement the taste of this cooling dip.

5. Tasty Hummus

This one is a classic dip which you can modify the intensity of flavor to through adding additional paprika. Great with carrots, celery or cucumber, hummus is a sure winner if included in a buffet or party spread. Delicious with hot pita breads or even garlic bread, there are lots of ways to enjoy hummus, so why not give this easy recipe a go!

Ingredients

  • 200g chickpeas
  • 2 cloves of garlic
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 3 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1 tsp ground cumin
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • Salt and pepper

Step 1 of 1

Add all ingredients to a bowl and thoroughly combine. Alternatively, you may wish to use a food processor for speed if you have one available. Add the salt and pepper to taste and more paprika could be added for a spicier flavor. Sticks of celery, carrot and bell peppers go especially well dipped in hummus.

All of these dips sound really good. I agree that making our own is a much better option than buying in a store. It tastes better and we control the ingredients.
