1) Say Thank You
Thanking your partner. After you get married you tend to forget to thank your partner for all the little things he or she does for you. Happily married couples thank each other constantly for little things. This reminds your partner that he or she is appreciated and that you do not take them for granted. Try to remind yourself to thank your partner at least 3 times per day.
2) Share the Blame
Your partner does something that annoys you. Instead of accusing him or her and starting an argument, you can share the blame. That way your partner will be more receptive to changing this behavior. For example instead of saying: “I hate it when you….”, you could say: “We both tend to do …. I think it would be better if we could both….”. This way both of you have to make an effort and your partner will be more receptive to the criticism.
Give your partner affection. When your partner is feeling down or if he or she has received good news, give him or her a hug to console/congratulate them. Give him or her a kiss before they leave for work or before you fall asleep at night. Touch your partner’s hand. Caress your partner's back, shoulder or legs. Touching produces a positive biochemical response in the body and in the long run it will help keep your relationship strong.
4) Show Interest
Even if you are truly not interested in the topic your partner is talking about, try to spend at least an hour a day asking them about things they like. You will make your partner feel special. Showing interest in your partner’s daily life, hobbies, friends or family will make him or her feel closer to you.
5) Do Something Special
Every day try to do something special for your partner. Whether it is buying his or her favorite drink or dessert at the supermarket or leaving your partner a special note or text message. Even preparing a special meal, folding their clothes or running an errand for them can be special. Doing something that alleviates stress or makes them feel special will make a world of difference. Remember consistency is the key here, try to do one thing for your partner everyday no matter how small.
