5 Easy Ways to Prevent Diabetes

Diabetes mellitus, commonly known as Diabetes, is a chronic disease in which there are high levels of sugar in the blood. Many people are suffering from this disease and the astonishing point is that about 40% of the diabetic people are not aware of it. Diabetes is of three types according to levels – type 1, type 2 and Gestational Diabetes. Diabetes is not a dreadful disease but still it should be prevented as the body can start reacting abnormally in every criterion, if not taken care of. Symptoms of diabetes include fatigue, unexplained weight loss, excessive thirst at some times, poor wound healing capacity, blurry vision and altered mental status.

Some of the easiest way for preventing excessive diabetes is as follows -

1. Control obesity

Obesity is a major cause of diabetes among people of age group 40. Therefore, to prevent diabetes at an age of 40 or above, you should lose your extra body weight and maintain it at a normal level. You should eat a healthy low fat or high fiber diet.

2. Regular Exercise

Exercising regularly is very crucial for preventing any type of disease. It maintains the physical health and fitness, makes the body active and prevents many types of diseases. You can make a time table to exercise for at least 30 mins in the morning and evening as well.

3. Quit Smoking

Smoking is a major problem which can make one unhealthy. It causes many dreadful diseases like cancer, lung problems or problems related to heart. In a diabetic person, smoking should be quitted, because smoking affects the respiratory tract which can create more problems in patients. So you should quit smoking.

4. Drink Water and Avoid Salt

You should drink an adequate amount of water, as diabetic patients have a symptom of excessive thirst. Another point to prevent diabetes is that you have to avoid salt as much as possible. Increase in intake of salt will increase the sodium level in your body, which can affect your diabetic level.

5. Watch for Injuries

You should take care of your skin. If there is any kind of injury like cuts or wounds, that should be washed and examined. Small cuts or wounds can be infected and can cause a severe problem afterwards. Therefore, it should be taken care of.

These above tips will not only preventing diabetes but also will help in lowering the diabetes level of a diabetic person.
