5 Factors to Think About When Buying a Carp Bivvy

By | 0 Comments | Rating: 0 | |

Carp angling attract many followers and they are the most dedicated of all of the angling community – come rain, sleet, snow and wind they are sure to be at the waters edge. The fact the carp fishing is most popular in Europe as opposed to other areas of the world may come as a bit of surprise. The reasons for this are unclear but regardless of why there certainly is a huge following that supports a massive industry.

Carp anglers are obsessive about fishing, they are always trying to outwit their quarry – regardless of cost or the time that it takes. They will stop at nothing to catch that one special fish and as such this results in the buying specialist bits of equipment that is only suitable for catching carp – such as baitrunner carp reels and heavy duty carp rods that will tame even the largest of fish. One item of kit that you will find no carp angler without is a fishing bivvy and these are basically a shelter from prevailing winds and bad weather. If you don't already own a bivvy or are looking to upgrade yours here are five points that you should consider:

  1. Advances in manmade materials in the outdoor activity areas have allowed some very high tech materials such as GoreTex to be produced. These breathable materials make the perfect choice for a fishing bivvy as they will keep you cool in the summer and warm in the winter. You do not need to search for a bivvy made from GoreTex as GoreTex is merely a brand name – you should really be looking for a breathable material.
  2. Multiple pegging points on a bivvy give you flexibly of how many and where you can peg your bivvy down. How many times have you hammered a peg half way in to the ground only to find a stone stopping it from going any further? Multiple pegging points give you more options so in this case more is definitely better.
  3. A carp fishing bivvy is likely to house a lot of expensive kit and at some point you are going to want to leave it and have a wonder round. Now, if someone really wants to get in a bivvy they will simply cut it, but to deter the opportunist thief then being able to lock the zip is a definite plus point,
  4. A large door way is essential for easy access both in and out of your bivvy. More often than not you will be in a rush when leaving your hide so a broader doorway will definitely be a significant advantage.
  5. If you know that you are going to be fishing throughout the year then do make sure that you get a door that has a large clear front panel on it so that you can keep an eye on your rods. In the summer you can leave the door open, but in the winter months you will want to keep that door shut and so good visibility is absolutely essential.

With so many carp fishing bivvies on the market it is difficult to know where to start but if you look at satisfying at least these five points you will be on to a winner.
