5 Flavorful Desserts Using JELL-O

JELL-O® is definitely at the top of the fun food list. The jiggly tasty treat was made popular in the 1950s as a gelatin mold dish. It gained a new audience after adults began making JELL-O® shots. But there is more to JELL-O® than molds or shots. Here are five easy and delicious desserts the whole family can enjoy. But if you still want to use a mold, go right ahead.

Jello Mold

JELL-O® Filled Cake


  • Cake mix - any flavor
  • JELL-O® - any flavor (it should complement the cake flavor)
  • 1 tub (8 oz.) COOL WHIP Whipped Topping


  • Bake cake in two 9- inch round cake pans, let cool
  • While the cake is cooling make JELL-O® as directed but do not refrigerate
  • Poke cakes with a large fork in several places and pour the gelatin evenly over each cake layer
  • Place the cake pans in the refrigerator for at least 3 hours
  • Unmold the cake pans and frost using the cool whip
  • Put the cake back in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour prior to serving
  • Place leftover cake (if any) in the refrigerator

Strawberry Pretzel JELL-O® Squares


  • 2 cups finely crushed pretzels
  • ½ cup sugar, divided into ¼ cups
  • 2/3 cup butter or margarine, melted
  • 1-1/2 pkg. PHILADELPHIA Cream Cheese (8 oz.), softened
  • 2 Tbsp. whole milk
  • 1 cup thawed COOL WHIP Whipped Topping
  • 2 cups boiling water
  • 1 pkg. JELL-O® Strawberry Flavor Gelatin (6 oz.)
  • 1-1/2 cups cold water
  • 4 cups fresh strawberries, sliced


  • Pre-heat an oven to 350°F.
  • Mix pretzels, ¼ cup sugar and butter and press onto the bottom of a 13x9-inch pan. Bake 10 minutes and cool
  • Beat the cream cheese, remaining sugar and milk until blended. Stir in COOL WHIP, spread over crust and refrigerate
  • Add boiling water to gelatin mix in large bowl and stir for 2 minutes. Add cold water and refrigerate for 1-1/2 hours or until thickened
  • When the gelatin has set, stir-in berries and spoon over cream cheese layer. Refrigerate for 3 hours or until firm
  • Refrigerate any leftovers

Colorful JELL-O® Patchwork Dessert Bars


  • 5-1/2 cups boiling water, divided
  • 1 pkg. JELL-O Strawberry Flavor Gelatin (3 oz.)
  • 1 pkg.  JELL-O Lime Flavor Gelatin (3 oz.)
  • 1 pkg.  JELL-O Orange Flavor Gelatin (3 oz.)
  • 1 pkg.  JELL-O Lemon Flavor Gelatin (3 oz.)
  • 2 envelopes Unflavored Gelatin
  • ½ cup cold water
  • 1 can sweetened condensed milk (14 oz.)


  • In separate bowls, add 1 cup of boiling water to each flavor of the fruit gelatin mixes, stir for 2 minutes. Next, using separate small shallow food storage containers sprayed with cooking spray, pour each flavor and refrigerate for at least 2 hours
  • Mix unflavored gelatin with cold water and let stand for 1 minute. Stir in boiling water and condensed milk, mix well and cool slightly
  • Cut the flavored gelatin into cubes and place them in a random pattern in a 13x9 inch pan, pre-sprayed with cooking spray. Pour the milk mixture over the cubes and distribute evenly. Refrigerate for at least 2 hours prior to serving

JELL-O® Frozen Fourth-of-July Pops


  • 1-1/3 cups boiling water, divided (three 2/3 cups)
  • 1 pkg.  JELL-O Strawberry Flavor Gelatin (3 oz.)
  • 1 pkg. JELL-O Berry Blue Flavor Gelatin (3 oz.)
  • 1 pkg. JELL-O Vanilla Flavor Instant Pudding (3.4 oz.)
  • 2 cups cold whole milk


  • In separate small bowls, add 2/3 cup boiling water to each flavor gelatin mix and stir 2 minutes. Pour each flavor into a separate 8x4-inch loaf pan sprayed with cooking spray. Refrigerate for at least 1 hour
  • Unmold and slice into 1/2-inch cubes
  • Whisk pudding mix and milk in a medium bowl for 2 minutes
  • Add gelatin cubes and stir gently
  • Spoon mixture into eight (5-oz.) paper cups and insert a wooden Popsicle stick in the center of each
  • Freeze the pops for at least 4 hours, until firm
  • Peel off cups before serving

Heavenly Gelatin


  • 2 cups boiling water
  • 1 pkg. JELL-O Sugar Free Gelatin, any flavor (8-serving size)  
  • 1 cup cold water
  • 2 cups thawed COOL WHIP LITE Whipped Topping


  • Mix boiling water and gelatin mix in a medium bowl and stir for at least 2 minutes, then stir in cold water. Pour into a 13x9-inch pan and refrigerate for at least 3 hours, until firm
  • Cut into ½ inch cubes
  • Spoon ¼ cup of the whipped topping 8 dessert dishes and, using the back side of a spoon, spread whipped topping onto bottom and up side of each dish
  • Place gelatin cubes onto the center of each dish
  • Refrigerate until ready to serve
