5 Fun Activities to do in San Diego

San Diego is a favorite tourist destination in California, and when you visit, you can definitely see why. The weather is near-perfect all year round and the city has some of the most beautiful beaches you'll find anywhere in the Pacific coastline. Here are fun things to do in San Diego, next time you visit.

Visit Balboa Park
The Balboa Park in San Diego is located just a few minutes from Downtown. It covers 1,200 acres of land and contains ten different world-renowned museums, nine botanical gardens, the San Diego Zoo, a theatre and playhouse with a replica of Shakespeare's Old Globe and many shops and restaurants to enjoy. You can also just walk down the main promenade and take in the beautiful architecture and artwork.

Play in the Coves
The Coves in La Jolla are one of the prettiest places to visit in San Diego. You and your family can enjoy the gentle surf and the colorful tide pools. You can also seal-watch and take a guided kayak tour of the sea caves and the cliffs. And once you tire of all the activity, you can walk to the many bars and restaurants in quaint downtown La Jolla.

The Maritime Museum of San Diego
You might not find this in a San Diego guide for visitors, but the Maritime Museum of San Diego is located Downtown, right on the harbor. Visitors can climb onto four different historic sea vessels, including the famous "Star of India", one of the oldest working sail ships in the world. There's also the "HMS Surprise", which is an 18th Royal Navy ship and was featured in the film Master and Commander. You can also get inside a real-life Cold-War era Soviet submarine and have lunch in the topsail schooner "California".

Take a Hike
A hike in the beautiful Torrey Pines State Reserve is a must for any nature lover visiting San Diego. The reserve makes for an very pleasant hike that the whole family can enjoy, and it rewards you with some truly incredible views of the Pacific coast.

Check Out the Night Life at the Gaslamp
The historic Gaslamp District offers a great night life scene for both couples and singles. You'll find all kinds of sports bars, dance clubs and lounges, where you can unwind and relax. There are salsa dancing venues and live music shows in famous venues like The Casbah and The House of Blues.

I wish I had read about San Diego before going there. We had a fairly long drive to get there and all we did was going to the San Diego Zoo, which was great, but then we headed straight back to the highway!
