5 Great Christmas Gifts for Guys

By Edited Feb 25, 2016 1 1

Have A "Hard-to-Shop-for" Guy on Your List?

We're getting down to the wire here.  Thanksgiving has come and gone already, Black Friday left its mark on the calendar, and now there's roughly twenty-two days left before Christmas 2013 to get gifts for your loved ones.  You've probably got most of the easy-to-shop for folks taken care of, which means now it’s time to figure out what to get the people on your list who are a bit more difficult to shop for.

This article focuses on a few ideas of what to get for guys.  You can do it all online, and have Amazon ship it to you.  Now only if there concept of Prime Air & 30-minute delivery was a reality.  Wouldn't that be awesome?!

1. Google Chromecast

For a product that costs just $35, and does such a simple thing, I found it interesting that the Google Chromecast ranks as Amazon's 3rd best seller out of their entire Electronics department.  -Interesting, but not surprising.  The Chromecast is a device that you plug into an open HDMI port on your television (might want to make sure your television has an open port available before ordering one of these!)

The Chromecast device allows you to cast (stream) your favorite content from Google Play, YouTube, Netflix, and your Chrome browser directly to your television with a press of a button.  All you need is the app installed on your existing smartphone, tablet of laptop computer.

2. Anker Astro 3E 10,000mAh Dual USB Backup Battery

I never thought about these portable battery backup products until I was out golfing one weekend and my smartphone went dead.  I was using GPS, data, and a golfing app on the phone, which basically sucks as much power as possible from the device.  -Smartphone, but not so smart without power.  Enter the Anker Astro backup battery.  The thing is about the size of a smartphone, and features 2 USB ports for charging 2 devices at once.  It can charge an iPhone about 4-5 times before it needs to be recharged itself.  It has four LEDs on the front of it to give you an idea how much power it has left.

This product has just over 2,000 5-star reviews on Amazon from buyers, which is a great sign that you’re buying a quality product.

3. SanDisk Ultra 32GB MicroSDHC C10 Memory Card

This MicroSD memory card is great for upgrading your storage capacity in your Android-based smartphone, tablet, or your digital camera.  If the guy on your list has to constantly transfer files off his device onto his computer, then help him out and give him more storage capacity.  This card is a Class 10 & UHS Speed Class 1 rated memory card, which means it provides that fastest read/write times available.  It also comes with an adapter sleeve, so you can read the memory card in devices that have SD slots.

Follow the link below to the product's page on Amazon, you'll find a chart that gives you an idea of how many different types of files the card will hold.

4. "The Complete Joy of Homebrewing, Third Edition"

by Charlie Papazian

-Beer.  Most guys seem to enjoy a beer.  -Can't imagine why.  And many guys enjoy making stuff.  Why not combine the two and get your guy the #1 book on home brewing your own beer?

Charlie Papazian, rocket-scientist turned homebrew master, is the author of this book, now on its third edition.  His writing style is fun, witty, and the book is chock-full of great content to help all brewers, from beginner to seasoned master brewer.  My favorite recipe from this book is called "Rocky Raccoon Honey Lager", which I often add 8-12 pounds of black cherries to.  (You seriously need to try this).

Along with the book, you'll need to get a basic homebrew kit.  The book walks you through all the things you'll need, so I'd advise ordering the book, read about what you'll need to brew your first beer, and then go to the store and purchase a brew kit.  I say this because homebrew store owners are often passionate about their hobby-turned-business, and will often feel that you need to buy more than you really need.  -Just my opinion.  Your local homebrew store owner may vary.

5. Black Diamond Spot Headlamp

Nobody likes to be in the dark.  And I mean that in both the figurative and the literal sense.  -Because if you can't see your surroundings, then truly, you're in the dark.

I always thought these things were kind of dorky, but over the years I've warmed up to them.  You don't need to be a spelunker to own one of these and get good use out of it.  Ever go camping and need to get a fire going so you can, you know, see?  Ever work under a car?  Ever wish you could be using both hands to work on something instead of holding a flashlight with one hand?  Ever get sick of having to aim a light in the direction you want to see?

This light solves those problems and more.  Plus, it's fully waterproof, so you can use it in rain or snow without worrying about damaging it.  And since it uses LEDs for light output, it won't be eating through batteries.  It has an adjustable strap, and comes in a number of colors, so you’re sure to find one that matches your guy's personal style.

I was browsing your articles and saw a picture of the Chromecast. Reading through the list brought to mind this article I wrote about great gifts for guys. In the process of researching I came across an amazing site that advertised Bourbon marshmallows.

1, 3 and 4 are topping my lists of wants; though they can be seen as needed items. Awesome compilation. Thanks for sharing.
