5 Movies You Need to See from 2011

By Edited Oct 26, 2016 0 0

Ever go to the video store and stare blankly at your options, not knowing which movies will satisfy your entertainment needs?  Here are 5 amazing movies from 2011 that you must see, if you haven't already. (In no particular order)

The Green Hornet

This movie is not a typical super hero movie, although you would probably already know that if you had seen that not-so-typical Seth Rogen plays the lead role.  Britt Reid (Seth) is the heir to his father's large company.  Britt's first command as leader of the estate is to fire all household staff except for his maid.  He realizes that he accidentally fired the only person who could make his coffee right and proceeds to rehiring his father's barista/mechanic/assistant.  Together they become a "crime-fighting team."  Of course, to fight crime, you need to create a villain, right?  What better way to do this than to sever the head of your late father's statue?   The rest, you have to see!

See this movie if you're in the mood for a comedy, an action or simply Seth Rogen's own brand of amazing genre!

Crazy, Stupid, Love

If you're looking for a movie filled with romance and love and candle lit dinners; pick a different movie!  This movie is definitely perfect to watch with your girlfriend or spouse, but it's one that a man can enjoy, too!  The cast is full of comedic and highly talented actors, such as Steve Carell, Emma Stone, Ryan Gosling and Julianne Moore.

The first scene begins with what seems like an ordinary couple having dinner together, when, suddenly, Emily (Julianne Moore), exclaims that she wants a divorce.  Cal Weaver (Steve Carell), who had only ever had sex with his wife, befriends Jacob (Ryan Gosling) who is the personification of smooth.  Jacob then teaches Cal to become a womanizer, which, let's face it, is not a word one can imagine attached to Steve Carell's face.  While all of this is occuring, Robbie, Cal and Emily's son, makes forward and very awkward advances towards his 17-year-old babysitter, who also happens to have a crush on Cal.

While browsing through the aisles of your local video store tonight, be sure to pick this one up, you won't be disappointed.  Besides, if all else fails, you get to see Ryan Gosling shirtless and yet another amazing performance by Emma Stone!

Bad Teacher

Here's one you won't want to miss.  Sure, the acting may not be perfect, but the plot is one you need to see!  The cast includes Cameron Diaz, Lucy Punch, Jasen Segal, Justin Timberlake and The Office's own Phyllis Smith.

Cameron plays Mrs. Halsey, a teacher whose fiancé dumps her because he suspects she was only in it for the money, perhaps "suspects" is a loose term, more correctly, he knows.  Completely torn by the loss of her bank, Elizabeth Halsey returns to her job...as a teacher.  She meets Justin Timberlake who, as it turns out, is very rich, but also likes women with big Hooters, so Elizabeth begins to raise and save money for her "tit job" in very creative ways.  Although the overall plot of the movie is quite funny, the background characters and side-plots truly make this movie a must see.  SPOILER: (Especially if you want to see the most awkward "sex" scene ever filmed, with JT and Cameron Diaz.)

Pick this movie up if you want to laugh.  This movie should have done much better in the box office, in my opinion.

Hobo With a Shotgun

If you need to see a disturbing movie, this one is a must see.  I am still unsure if this movie was so bad because of budgets or just low-grade actors, but truly, if you give it a chance, 8/10 of you won't turn it off.  This movie is full of crazy one-liners and gruesome killings, it sucks so good!

Is there anything better than a hobo who decides that it's time to clean up the streets of dirty cops, pedophiles, drug dealers and basically the other excrements of the city?  Lead actor Rutger Hauer is armed with a shotgun and somehow manages to unite the people of the city, after all "the streets are a hobo's home, he should have the right to keep his home clean."-Hobo With a Shotgun

Pick this movie up if you want to say, "What the..." as many times as humanly possible in the span of 86 horrendously eye-popping minutes.

Limitless

Bradley Cooper and Robert Deniro star in this awe-inspiring thriller.  Ever wonder what you could do if you could use your brain to its full capacity?

Eddie Morra (Bradley Cooper) starts as a class-one loser.  Unpublished author, newly single man meets with an "old friend" who hands him a fully "legit" drug to enhance his brain to 100%.  And it works.  It works very well.  Of course, as it happens with all drugs, these magic pills also bring with them a lot of trouble.  Eddie makes millions, people like him, people want what he has and people will stop at nothing to get their hands on his stash.  It doesn't take long for him to realize that he's not the only one whose hooked.  This movie will make you wonder, "what if I could use my brain to 100% capacity?"  then it'll give you the answer, "You would rock EVERYONE'S socks."

Pick this movie up if you want an extreme paranoia-filled thriller.  Do not pick it up if you're already paranoid.
