These games will keep the gamer in your life very busy this holiday season!

The gaming industry is showing no signs of slowing down its dominance of the entertainment industry. And this holiday season should be bigger than most, as several major releases have been slated to make their debut during the final quarter of the year. Below is a list of the five most anticipated video games of this holiday season.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3

The latest installment of the best selling Call of Duty first-person shooter franchise will be released on November 8th, 2011. Each new version of the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare franchise has been met with stellar sales, largely due to it's insanely addictive online multi-player mode. COD:MW is one of the few video games that has crossed over into the idiom of larger popular culture, so major sales figures are to be expected, despite complaints about the game play of the last edition, Black Ops.  Modern Warfare 3 will be available on both PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 platforms.

Battlefield 3

Interestingly enough, one of the other major releases of this holiday season is another reality themed first-person military-based shooter. This latest version features an entirely new graphics engine which has been eagerly anticipated. Fans of the franchise swear by its on-line play, and are convinced that it is superior to the more-popular COD:MW series. Released roughly two weeks prior to Modern Warfare 3, there is an interesting sales battle brewing between the two franchises. Battlefield 3 is available for both PS3 and Xbox 360.

Uncharted 3

The Uncharted series has provided PS3 owners hours of top-notch game play in the adventure platform gaming genre. Uncharted 2 has been described by many as one of the best looking games of all time, and it's game play often matched it's graphics. Now, Uncharted 3 hopes to top its predecessor's success. In many ways, the Uncharted series is a throwback to classic single-player platformers that formed the backbone of the modern gaming industry. Uncharted 3 is available now for PS3.

Batman: Arkham City

Batman is one of the most famous comic characters ever. Several films, television programs and games later, the latest media incarnation of Bruce Wayne's alter ego is Arkham City, an adventure platformer for the PS3 and Xbox 360. A sequel to the Arkham Asylum game, Arkham City feature Batman again battling some of his more infamous foes in a massive game that features all kinds of hidden content and perks. Arkham City features updated graphics and improved fight mechanics, making it a much bigger game than its predecessor. As an added perk, users can play as the Catwoman, and download an add-on that allows them to play as Nightwing. Batman:Arkham City is available now.

The Elder Scrolls: Skyrim

Role-playing gamers are a die-hard bunch. After all, RPGs require more than a little dedication and focus from gamers, as the games may take upwards of 100 hours to complete. The most eagerly anticipated RPG of the year is The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, the latest installment of the longstanding Elder Scrolls franchise. As with all the other games on this list Skyrim offers users update graphics, better play mechanics and a deeper playing experience. As a RPG, though, Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim stands apart from the other games on this list due to its truly massive scale and open-ended game-play. Literally hundreds of quests await players aside from the main storyline, which makes Skyrim easily one of the longest RPGs ever made. In addition, your in game actions directly affect the nature of your interaction with the non-player controlled characters (NPCs). Skyrim is available on November 11th for Xbox 360, PS3 and Windows.
