Eat More Often
When your body is deprived of calories, or meals are missed, your body actually thinks you are starving. Your body goes into starvation mode, and slows down your metabolism as a way for storing energy in your body. Skipping meals or starving yourself is certainly not healthy, and will not help you lose weight. It is recommended that as soon as you wake up, you eat a well balanced meal within 30 minutes. The key is not to overload on calories, but to have a good balance of protein, dairy, carbohydrates, fruits, and vegetables. Protein is essential, because your body requires twice as much energy to burn proteins, therefore increasing your metabolism. After your first meal of the day, it is recommended to have a small snack after about two hours. This snack should consist of a handful of nuts, a piece of fruit, or maybe a yogurt. Again, two to three hours after that, you should plan on having lunch. Again, make sure it is well balanced and most importantly well portioned. Typically, a person should have three well balanced meals a day, and two to three small, low calorie snacks a day. If your body is constantly receiving sustenance, your metabolism will increase naturally.

Green Tea has been proven to boost metabolism, as long as you consume at least five 8 ounce cups of green tea a day, you can burn up to an additional 100 calories per day just by drinking tea. 100 calories may not seem like a lot, but every little bit counts. Green Tea increases thermogenesis, which is essential heat production in your body, and thus in turn increases your metabolism by increasing heat production. Freshly brewed green tea is the best way to go as opposed to store bought pre-made green tea. Taking green tea supplements will also produce the same metabolism boosting effect. When buying supplements, be careful as many include other diet enhancing drugs such as hoodia.
Fish Oil Supplements
Omega-3 fatty acids such as DHA or EPA are great supplements to take that can increase your metabolism by up to 400 calories a day. The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition and The University of Western Ontario both conducted studies that proved that Fish Oil Supplements will increase your metabolism. In order to increase your metabolism, you must consume at least 300 milligrams of fish oil per day. Water has so many health benefits, as long as you drink enough. The average person should consume at least 8, 8-ounce glasses of water per day. This does not include coffee or soda, but just plain water. Drinking cooler water, also aids in the body's metabolism, since it has to work harder to warm the water to body temperature. If you drink the recommended amount of water per day, you can burn up to an additional 100 calories. Again, 100 calories may not seem like much, but it adds up to over 10 pounds of weight loss per year. Water also has great benefits for your skin, your digestive system, and your general well being.
