How to get that Flat Stomach

It is one of biggest if not the biggest symbol of sexiness that you can obtain in your life and I am talking about the 6-pack abs.  Every guy wants it and women want to have that flat, tone, and tight stomach as well.  It is extremely desirable to have, but unfortunately it is also very hard to obtain.  Here are some tips on how to go about getting that 6-pack look.

Let’s start out with some basic information that most people do not know.  The abs are not six individual muscles that just need to become larger to been seen.  In fact increasing the size of your abdominal muscles has very little to do with obtain that 6-pack look.  The abs actually consists of four different muscles starting with the rectus abdominus which is the front muscles that show the 6-pack look.  Next are the internal and external obliques which are on the sides and look like lines on very lean people.  Finally is the transverse abdominus which you can not see, but is very important because it supports your body and protects you from hurting yourself.  It is important to work all of these muscles if you want to develop that 6-pack look.

The Workout

This workout should be done every 2-3 days and can be done after your workout, after cardio or even on its own, but you need to make sure that you warm up.  You should pick one exercise for each muscle group so you have three exercises total.  For each exercise perform 8-15 reps and 3-4 sets.

Rectus abdominus (front abs) – Crunch, Leg raises, V-ups, Hanging leg raises, Sit-ups, Front plank.

Internal and External Obliques – Russian twist, Side bends, Torso twist.

Transverse abdominus – Front planks or Stomach pulls.

You can perform the stomach pulls anywhere and anytime.  To do this stand or sit up straight and suck you stomach in trying to pull your belly button in as close to your back as possible.  Hold that for 10-15 seconds and then relax.  Rest for 10-20 seconds and repeat for a total of 5-12 sets.

Although this workout will help you develop your abs making them stronger it will not allow them to become visible unless you remove that layer of fat that is over them.  This is what a lot of people don’t understand.  As a personal trainer I have tons of new clients who just want me to teach them lots of exercises for their abs without understanding that they need to lose all of that body fat over them before they can be seen.  It may seem like a lot of work and it is, but keep your head up, have faith, and stay positive because with hard work and a proper diet I know you can achieve that 6-pack look that you and everyone else desires.
