6 Ways to Wear a Flyaway Cardigan

By Edited Jun 11, 2015 0 0

A flyaway cardigan is a sweater with exaggerated lines. It usually doesn't have a closure and just hangs loosely on the body. You can get these sweaters in regular sizes or in one size fits all. You'll need to check the fit through the arms because this is the tightest area of these sweaters. You can get them at stores like New York & Company. Here are six ways to wear a flyaway cardigan:

1. City Chic

To give a flyaway cardigan a chic look, go with a fashion forward color. This could be gray or teal and should be mid-length. Use the same color of fitted trouser shorts. You can also layer a fitted vest or tank top underneath to show off your figure. Then, carry your favorite designer handbag and ankle boots.

2. Bohemian

A bohemian style cardigan is a good alternative to a fitted jacket. This is one of the loosest fits in this type of clothing. Look for a sweater that is longer in the front than in the back for added interest. It can even have a tie dye or ombre pattern. Stay away from black. Instead, pair it with pale earth tones like a sage green or taupe. Wear it with a tiered skirt, fringe purse and sandals for a breezy summertime look. Continue the layered look with a sheer scarf on top.

3. Rocker

For a rock and roll style, vary up the sleeve length. For summertime, layer a sleeveless cardigan over a t-shirt. This sweater should be more fitted and shorter. You could also use a leather belt on one of these items for a more structured look. You may even be able to find one with studded details. Finish off the outfit with skinny jeans or leggings and an oversized chain necklace.

4. Feminine

This style can even be appropriate for evening. You can find a sheer or lace version. It can even have cinched details around the waist. Try it with a dress in the same color for a monochromatic look. Since it is such a dramatic silhouette, you can tone down the color, pattern and fit. This is a way to take a summer dress into the fall months. Keep the outfit sophisticated with metallic shoes and a sequined handbag.

5. Vintage Style

This cardigan can also appear quite vintage. Look for a knit piece that features a chunky yarn. This should be in a cropped shorter style. Add in a feminine lace pencil skirt. The flyaway detail should be less dramatic in this case. Slick back or curl your hair for a finished look.

6. Casual Outfits

You can use this as part of your everyday wardrobe. Play around with typical neutral colors or go for a navy shade that will match any of your dark wash jeans. Then just wear a basic camisole underneath. Keep your outfit functional and glamorous at the same time with chandelier earrings. Wear this in several different ways. Try wrapping it around your body and fastening it with a brooch for a tighter fit.
