Medicinal value of Herbal Tea Leaves

Usually, herbal teas are derived from various medicinal herbs. Terrestrial herbs with outstanding medicinal values grow in different parts of the world. It is from these herbs that herbal teas are derived; different herbs have varying values. Some herbs may be very effective in relieving fatigue and tension while others are specially suited in correcting respiratory disorders and stomach upsets.

 The final result of herbal teas is to give the body an overall feeling of relaxation and comfort. Chamomile plant for instance thrives well in almost any part of the world; Chamomile Tea which is derived from the blossoms of this plant is effective in calming nervousness and reducing back pains. Various parts of terrestrial herbs may be utilised in making the herbal teas. Some of the commonly utilised plant parts include leaves, flowers and roots.

Majority of herbal teas are made from leaves of medicinal herbs. Peppermint Tea for instance is derived from the leaves of a naturally occurring hybrid of spearmint and water mint. The Peppermint leaves are dried and used to make minty refreshing tea. The Peppermint leaves have an appealing aroma and a minty taste. The leaves possess diverse medicinal benefits and thus their popularity. Dried Pepper mint leaves are offered for sale in many parts of the world.

Lemon Balm Tea is popularly used to promote sleep, reduce stress and calm stomach disorders. Leaves from Lemon balm tree are utilised in making the herbal tea.  Lemon balm herbal tea can be made from dried or fresh leaves.  The leaves are simply added to hot water, they are removed after around ten minutes. Honey and lemon juice can be added to the lemon balm herbal tea to enhance the flavour.

In some cases, both the leaves and flowers of terrestrial plants may be used to complement each other. For instance, St. John’s Wort Tea is made from the leaves and flowers of St. John’s Wort. St. John’s Wort is a perennial plant found in subtropical regions of Asia, Europe and India. The leaves and the flowers are utilised in making herbal teas; dried St. John’s Wort leaves and dried flowering tops are added to a cup of water for five minutes. Best results are obtained by consuming a cup in the morning and at night.

The purple-coloured flowers which grow on the woody stem of the Lavender plant are utilised in making the popular Lavender Tea. Some varieties of Lavender plants have pink or white flowers but these are equally effective in making herbal teas with immense health benefits. The process of making lavender herbal tea is very simple; a handful of dried lavender leaves are put in boiling water for 7-10 minutes after which the tea can be consumed.

Tulsi Tea is also made from flowers and leaves of a common Indian Shrub. The tea improves the general wellness of the body. Tulsi herbal tea is mainly common in India but its benefits have spread to other parts of the world with many individuals adopting its use. Negative effects of stress can be minimised through Tulsi herbal tea.

Benefits of the Roots

Roots of terrestrial shrubs are also utilised in making herbal teas. For instance, Valerian Tea is made from oils extracted from the roots of Valerian plant. The Valerian plant is basically native to Europe and some parts of Asia. The components derived the roots can be used to release many disorders and discomforts.
