Interesting Fact 1 – Chess was invented there


In fact the modern form of chess that came out in Europe evolved from an older game in India called Shatrani.

The pawn, knight, bishop and rook evolved from infantry, cavalry, elephants and chariots.

Interesting fact 2 – Mathematics


The value of "pi" was first determined by Budhayana, an Indian mathematician, in the 6th century.

Algebra, calculus and trigonometry also originated from India.

Interesting fact 3 – Yoga


Yoga is a physical and mental discipline that originated in india 5000 years ago.

A person who practices yoga to a high degree is called a Yogi.

Interesting fact 4 - Software


India is one of the largest exporters of software products in the world; it exports software to over 80 countries.

Interesting fact 5 – Mosques


Even though India is traditionally a Hindu country it has over 300,000 mosques.

Why is this? Because India has the third largest population of Muslims in the world after Pakistan and Indonesia.

Interesting fact 6 – River Indus


Even though the river indus flow mostly through Pakistan the word India is derived from it.

Interesting fact 7 - Number system


The modern number system came to Europe through the Arabs, but they themselves got it from Inda where it was invented. It is often called Arabic numerals but the arabs themselves call it Hindsaa(given by hindus)

Today practically the whole world uses the number system

Interesting fact 8 - Largest Employer


The indian railway system employs more than 1.6 millions people making it the largest employer of people in the world

The railway owns over 200000 (freight) wagons, 50,000 coaches and 8,000 locomotive

Thanks, Although I wouldn't quite go as far to say I have much knowledge of India. What I did however is compile a list of interesting facts and chose the ones I thought were the most interesting and relevant and removed the rest.
That way, the best can be viewed in one place and not wade through boring facts, provided of course the reader agrees with my definition of interesting facts :D
