This is the time of year that we all are thinking about changing things to improve last years standards. Why not make a committment to yourself that would add years to your life? Being healthy has many benefits, such as fewer illnesses, and being energetic and productive.
1. Herbal Infusions
First of all, Herbal infusions are simply hot teas. They are steeped for up to 12 hours though. Herbal infusions are a great way to boost health and energy! You can use single organic herbs, like Stinging Nettle leaves or Echinacea leaves.
To make an infusion, you will only need 1 cup of organic herbs to 1 quart of boiling water. Using a quart mason jar is the best way to make it so you can seal it and let it steep overnight. Bring the water to a full boil, and then pour over the herbs in a quart mason jar. I let mine steep overnight. In the morning, I strain the herbs with a coffee filter. Sometimes you may have to strain it twice. You can keep it for a week refrigerated.
Stinging Nettle Benefits:
- Reduces fatigue
- Increases energy
- Blood sugar stabilizer
- Helps build immune system
- Healthier bones, and joints
- Helps reduce allergies/ hay fever
- Helps with menopause
- Helps with migraine headaches
- Builds the immune system
- Defends/and prevents against excessive colds & Flus
- Sore throats
- Fights against infections
Kale has many health benefits. It’s full of vitamins, high in fiber and has been considered a super food. It is also a natural anti-inflammatory and it’s a natural detox food. You can put a small handful in a health shake or mix it in your salad with Romaine and other fresh vegetables. It has just a little bitter taste but in a salad it’s a perfect addition. It is not expensive and if you want to grow it yourself, it’s easy to grow.
If you want to boost your health another notch for the New Year, flaxseed is a great option. Ground Flaxseed (organic) can be added to cereal, yogurt, and shakes. The fiber (4 grams per 2 tbs) will highly benefit you. Flaxseed also has huge levels of antioxidants. It has been promoted to help avoid breast cancer (among other cancers), strokes, and heart disease.
4. Healthy Shakes
Finding the best kind of shake that is healthy, tastes good and promotes energy can be daunting. I prefer Herbalife Formula 1 shake. I‘ve tried tons of shakes on the market and have never found anything else that could measure to the taste or one that makes me energized like it. There are many benefits to a healthy shake. You can add things to it that can super boost your energy. Try adding Kale, Flaxseed, and any fresh fruits and vegetables that you like.
5. Natural Remedies for Ailments
If you practice using natural remedies on a regular basis it can give you a huge benefit for the coming year. First evaluate what illnesses or medical problems you have dealt with in the past. Explore the herbs that may remedy some of these minor illnesses. You should research using several sources (books, internet etc.). I highly recommend any books written by Christopher Hobbs, who is a well trusted 4th generation Herbalist and botanist. Some good herbs to start with if you are new to trying herbs are Echinacea and Ginger root.
6. Almond or Soy milk
Try almond or soy milk. We all know the bad affects that milk can have on us. A very healthy alternative for milk is almond or soy milk. Almond milk is very tasty in a shake with a banana. It is also much lower in calories (60 calories per serving) than regular milk.
7. Fill up on wholesome foods
Keep celery with you at work or on the go. It is very filling and I believe because you have to chew it so much that it is very satisfying. Keeping an apple with you on the go is also a great way to keep you healthy and satisfied. You should probably alternate your healthy snacks so that you don’t get bored.
8. Plan to lose weight
If you have a few extra pounds or much more; carrying the extra pounds around can harm your health in the future. Even if you are not experiencing illnesses yet, it may change eventually. The best way to lose weight is to set goals. If you want to lose weight, Getting Healthy, will give you a great start. It may take more than just changing your diet though.
9. Give up or cut down on Processed foods
Processed foods should not be a regular diet but it seems that some tend to think it is real food. It is not. Real food is fresh, not processed and loaded with salt and chemicals. This is what makes us sluggish and this is what makes us sick. Do yourself a huge favor, and feed your body good wholesome food at least most of the time.
This should give you a jumpstart for now and throughout the year to get Healthy and create a more positive advantage against illnesses.
