AA Batteries
I find it very unusual when my parents gave me a bag filled with AA batteries as a gift when my family went to celebrate Christmas with them. Their explanation to this was that they have some toys for my kids that need to be operated by AA batteries. They have already assumed that I will not spend for batteries because they don't come cheap. My parents were very aware of my frugality and knew that if they will not hand me batteries, the toys might just be stacked up in a corner and will all seem to be just toy collections.
It seems that almost all the toys that are in the market today needs to be run by AA batteries. As much as possible, the toys that I pick for my kids would not require batteries, but it's quite impossible. There was even a time when I have to buy almost a dozen of AA batteries for the toys that I bought for them. Children feel so elated seeing their toys moving around or talking all day, and the next thing you realize is that you find yourself buying another set of batteries because the old batteries were all used up. It's such a waste of money and to think that they wouldn't last that long. Spending for myriad of batteries is uneconomical for me, and it doesn't fit my budget.
AA batteries are also used in some others things in our own homes. I have a digital camera that, as we all know, needs at least two batteries. The battery life is quite frustrating because it drains in just few hours of use and I didn't even get to make many beautiful shots. I even tried using rechargeable AA batteries, but I got frustrated just the same. To end up all my disappointments, I already bought the recommended batteries for my digital camera, which I should've done a long time ago.
Remote controls also use AA batteries. In this case, the batteries are maximized as they don't get easily drained like when used in toys or on gadgets. Rechargeable batteries have spared me from incurring further battery expenses. The demand for batteries is increasing as many inventions come out. Aside from chargeable batteries and battery chargers, there must also be other means to lessen battery expenses, and that's what the inventors must think of. Well, it's just a mere suggestion, but if they can come up with an idea, it would be better for all of us. But then if that's impossible to do, they might just, as well, make the life of AA batteries longer and the price cheaper.

I have always been frustrated by AA batteries. They seem to run out of juice very quickly! I love the movement toward rechargeable batteries that we are seeing in laptops, cell phones, ipods, and cameras.
