AA Speakers
I lived the life of an active alcoholic from my late teens until my early thirties. Anyone that has been there (or is currently there) can relate when I say that it was a living hell. After finding AA over ten years ago, my life began little by little to regain a sense of normalcy and I started having peace in my life. That is not to say that life is perfect today, but compared with the past it is nearly so.
One of the most important parts of this transformation was listening to AA speakers at meetings and buying AA speaker tapes at large AA events. In their talks, these recovering alcoholics shared their experience, strength and hope.
The "experience" part of these talks is about their life with alcohol. By including this in their talk, you see that even though this person appears to be quite normal, they too lived a very dysfunctional life. It allows all newcomers to relate to the speaker.
The "strength" portion of the talk is how they found sobriety through Alcoholics Anonymous. It is their personal journey from being an active alcoholic to a recovering alcoholic. These stories are quite inspiring to anyone. Truly miracles!
The "hope" portion of the talk is where the speaker gives hope for all those still suffering from addiction. By hearing of amazing transformations in the lives of others, newcomers can see that it is also possible for them to make this transformation.
