A Collection Of The Best TV Theme Songs Of All Time

Coming up with this list of best TV theme songs was a surprisingly tedious yet enjoyable experience. Although I wasn't able to list all the songs I came across; I did rediscover many shows that I had not seen in years. My research brought back a lot of good memories.

The list below is in no particular order and the song titles are in bold. Keep in mind that many instrumental songs can be performed by anyone and as a result that credit is often given to whoever composed the song. Feel free to list your favorite songs in the comment section if there is one that I have missed.

5- Love is All Around (The Mary Tyler Moore Show / 1970 – 1977) by Sonny Curtis
6- Theme from Star Trek (1966 – 1969) by Alexander Courage
7- The Ballad of Jed Clampett (The Beverly Hillbillies / 1962 – 1971) by Flatt & Scruggs with Jerry Scoggins on vocals
8- Where Everybody Knows Your Name (Cheers / 1982 – 1993) by Gary Portnoy
9- The Facts Of Life (1979 – 1988) by Gloria Loring
10- Fishin' Hole Theme (The Andy Griffith Show / 1960 – 1968) by Herbert W. Spencer and Earle Hagen
11- I Love Lucy Theme (1951 – 1957) by Wilbur Hatch and The Desi Arnaz Orchestra
12- Theme From The Brady Bunch (1969 – 1974) by Frank De Vol (writer) and Brady Bunch Kids (seasons 2- 5)
13- Who Wants To Live Forever (Highlander / 1992 – 1998) by Queen (This song is played sporadically throughout the series but asks the perfect question.)
14- The Streetbeater (Sanford & Son / 1972 – 1977) by Quincy Jones
15- Danger Ahead (Dragnet / 1951 – 1959) by Walter Schumann (The origin of the four note introduction can be traced back to Miklos Rozsa's score for the 1946 movie entitled "The Killers".)
16- Diff'rent Strokes Theme Song (1978 – 1986) by Alan Thicke
17- The X-Files Main Theme (1993 – 2002) by Mark Snow and John Beal
18- Park Avenue Beat (Perry Mason / 1957 – 1966) by Fred Steiner
19- Charlie's Angels Theme (1976 – 1981) by Jack Elliott
20- Chocolate Salty Balls (South Park / 1997 - ?) by Isaac Hayes (Although this song only appears in one episode (season 2, episode 9), Mr. Isaac Hayes, who plays Chef, gives us a hilarious song to remember. It is definitely worth it to get the full version of the song.)
21- I'll Be There For You (Friends / 1994 – 2004) by The Rembrandts
22- Meet The Flintstones (The Flintstones / 1960 – 1966) by Hoyt Curtin
23- The Munsters Theme Song (1964 – 1966) by Jack Marshall
24- Miami Vice Theme Song (1984 – 1990) by Jan Hammer
25- Angela (Taxi / 1978 – 1983) by Bob James
26- The Little House (Little House on the Prairie / 1974 – 1983) by David Rose

37- Harlem Nocturne (Mickey Spillane's Mike Hammer / 1984 – 1987) by Earle Hagen
38- Thank You For Being a Friend (The Golden Girls / 1985 – 1992) by Cynthia Fee (Originally sung by Andrew Gold.)
39- The Addams Family Theme (1964 – 1966) by Vic Mizzy
40- The Ballad Of Gilligan's Isle (Gilligan's Island / 1964 – 1967) by The Wellingtons (The song was written by Sherwood Schwartz and George Wyle. The version by The Wellingtons was only used for the first season and only referred to the Professor and Mary Ann as "the rest." A different version was used for season two and three and was performed by an uncredited group which included the Professor and Mary Ann by name.)
41- Good Times (1974 – 1979) by James Gilstrap and Blinky Williams
42- Three's Company Theme Song (1977 – 1984) by Joe Raposo and Don Nicholl
43- Theme from M*A*S*H (1972 – 1983) by Johnny Mandel
44- Opening Theme to Barney Miller (1975 – 1982) by Jack Elliott and Allyn Ferguson
45- Those Were The Days (All In The Family / 1971 – 1979) by Carroll O'Connor and Jean Stapleton
46- Dark Shadows Theme (1966 – 1971) by Robert Cobert (The soundtrack which contains "Quentin's Theme" is also very popular.)
47- Making Our Dreams Come True (Laverne & Shirley / 1976 – 1983) by Cyndi Grecco
48- There's a New Girl in Town (Alice / 1976 – 1985) by Linda Lavin (There were several versions used throughout the series and all were sung by Linda, who also played Alice. I loved Flo in this series, "Kiss my grits!")
49- Mission: Impossible Main Theme (1966 – 1973) by Lalo Schifrin
50- Believe It Or Not (The Greatest American Hero / 1981 – 1983) by Joey Scarbury
51- 1966 Batman TV Series Theme (1966 – 1968) by Neal Hefti
52- Make It Shine (Victorious / 2010) by Victorious Cast featuring Victoria Justice (I heard this while babysitting my niece and loved it so much I got up and started dancing. My niece joined in.)
