Some say that no matter how they try to lose weight, it just is not possible. I personally have lost a lot of weight in the past 2 years. I have acquired some useful knowledge that I would like to share with people that are having a hard time trying to lose weight.

The first thing you should do is calculate how many calories you are burning throughout the day. You can find simple calorie calculators on the internet. The amount of calories that you burn everyday is basically determine on your daily physical activity. For example, I work at a desk all day so my calories burned per day is approximately 500 less than someone that does physical labor. When you figure out how many calories you are burning you can determine how many you need to start cutting out per day to start the weight loss process. A pound is about 3500 calories so if you wanted to lose 3lbs per week you would have to triple that and subtract it from the calories your taking in per week, then you can determine how many calories you need to stick with each day.

Another useful tip that I learned early on was to limit soda and other carbonated drinks. Between me and my boss, we used to down a 12pk of coke a day sometimes more, now we both only drink 1 or 2 a week. I started drinking water mostly, it really helps with weight loss and it helps flush all of the toxins out of your body. Water has no calories so it is the best thing to drink throughout the day.

Watching your portion size can also make a difference. If you are the type that has 3 big meals per day breakfast, lunch, and dinner) you should try having smaller meals throughout the day and watch your portion size. This will give your stomach time to digest food and process it better.

Fruits and veggies are a great foods for weight loss, but I'm sure you already knew that. When I start my dieting plan I didn't eat to many fruits and vegetables because they are pretty expensive at grocery stores, but I later found some nice stands that sold fruits and vegetables for cheap.

Last, but not least, you need to get plenty of exercise. Since I have a desk job, I forced myself to start working out every day when I got home. I bought an elliptical and start for 10 minutes a day (all I could take). Now I can stay on it for more than an hour. Exercise will help burn calories and it will make you feel a lot better in the long run.
