A Guide to Mango Nutrition

It might not be the first thing that springs to mind when savoring this delicious fruit, but mango nutrition is a viable reason to consume them as well.  Filled with fiber and valuable nutrients that your body needs to function properly, mangoes are a great addition to any diet.  Whether it's reducing your risk of cancer or heart disease, or just rounding out your diet's vitamin intake, mangoes can help you to love eating healthy!  Even kids will want to join in on the diet when you get mangoes.

The benefits of doing so are due to many factors.  One of the key points of mango nutrition is that it has a very high amount of soluble fiber called pectin.  This is beneficial due to a number of reasons, but the most important one is likely that pectin has been shown to help prevent cancer in the digestive tract.  That isn't it's only benefit though, as pectin is also important for helping to combat high blood pressure and cholesterol.

Pectin gets some helps from some other forms of mango nutrition in the battle against cancer as well.  Cancer can be caused by chemicals that harm the cells, and these are called free radicals.  There are other nutrients called anti-oxidants that can bind with the free radicals and remove from the system before they can damage any cells.  This reduces the risk of cancer and also helps prevent premature aging of the skin as well.  Mango is a good source of anti-oxidants in the form of vitamin C and vitamin E. These have other health benefits as well and are an important part of any diet.

The list of different benefits of mango nutrition goes on and on.  There's vitamin K, which is important in that it helps the blood to clot.  It has also been linked to helping guard against liver and prostate cancer, as well as a possible weapon to prevent alzheimers.  You also get a good deal of phosphorus and magnesium from eating mangos, and each of those are important for a well rounded diet too.

On the downside of mango nutrition, mangoes do have a lot of sugar.  This can lead to unwanted weight gain if you aren't watching your calories close enough.  In general though, you're better off cutting the calories from other less nutritious sources first before dumping the mangoes.  Another drawback to mango is that some people are allergic to it.  The chemicals that cause the reaction are mostly located in the sap of the tree and the skin of the fruit, so even if allergic, some people may still be able to enjoy the pulp of mangoes.

Even with these limited problems with mango nutrition, they are still a rather healthy snack.  The positives far outweigh the negatives, and it's a good supplement of vitamins and other nutrients.  It's something everyone will love to eat, which of course will increase it's effectiveness as you can't benefit from something you don't eat.  There's no need for "a spoonful of sugar" with this "medicine", as it's already sweet and delicious!

Tasty Mango Health Benefits

Mango health benefits are often overlooked when choosing to eat the fruit.  It's easy to see why this happens given how delicious and tasty mangoes are.  It may interest you to know that even such a sumptuous treat has many beneficial impacts to our health, even if those health benefits are not the main reason we choose to eat mangoes.  With thousands of varieties of mangoes, there is a lot of variation in regards to taste and health, but some things transcend the different varieties.

One of the most important mango health benefits is that it is a high fiber snack that's actually enjoyable to eat.  Many other sources of dietary fiber are so bland or tasteless that it's hard to fit them into a diet without negatively affecting the enjoyment of eating.  With mangoes though that certainly isn't a problem.  Even the kids will love to eat this healthy snack.  Dietary fiber is important in many ways.  It aids digestion and has been shown to help lower the risk of cardiovascular disease due to lowering cholesterol levels.  Mangoes accomplish this through the soluble fiber pectin.  Mangoes are also healthy in this regard because they represent a good source of potassium, which helps to combat high blood pressure.

Another potential benefit of pectin is that it has been show to help reduce the chance of gastrointestinal cancers.  It does this by interfering with some specific proteins that are associated with cancer.  This isn't the only one of the mango health benefits in regards to cancer though.  As a rich source of vitamin-C, which is a potent antioxidant, eating mangoes is a way to combat free radicals which may have otherwise caused cancer and remove them from the body.  

Other vitamins contained within mangoes which are necessary for the proper function of the body further add to mango health benefits.  Vitamin A is one of these vitamins, and is an important compound in regards to keeping your eyesight healthy.  So not only is mango good for the taste buds, but it's good for the eyes too (and not just because it looks so delicious!)  Mangoes are also a great source of vitamin E, which is also an anti-oxidant that helps keep harmful free radicals at bay.  It is also important to the health of skin, hair, and can prevent a form of anemia that affects infants.

Other vitamins that mangoes bring to the table so to speak are vitamin K, magnesium, and phosphorus.  Given how mangoes provide such a wide array of health benefits, and taste great, it's easy to see why they are so popular.  Not everyone can enjoy mangoes though.  Those in colder climates may find it hard to find fresh mangoes given the climatic conditions in which it is grown.  Also, there are some who are allergic to mangoes.  The substances that cause the allergy tend to be in the skin and sap of the tree, so not everyone who is allergic to mangoes will have to refrain from eating them.  Still, it is good to know that it is a possibility, so that you can guard against and identify the effects if someone in your family has this allergy.
