A Homeowners Guide to Bathroom Marble Tiles

By Edited Nov 13, 2013 0 0

One of the most important parts of the home is the bathroom. This is where you do everything you need to do to beautify yourself. Thus, having a clean and adequate bathroom is essential. Marble tiles are usually used for bathroom tiling. They are elegant in form and quite sturdy (though not as sturdy as granite tiles) and is the perfect type of tile for your bathroom.

Using marble tiles in the bathroom is not something new. It has been used for centuries up until our present time. One downside though is that there is very little control in veining and color variation as they are a "natural piece of art". In other words, you take them as they are. As much as we want to use them in our home, they should not be used as a floor covering in areas with enormously high traffic. The reason for that is it is not a very hard stone (unlike granite, for instance). If you go against this, there is a high chance that your floor can crack. On the other hand, if you use them in bathrooms, then it is safe to say that it would last longer. Not only can they be used in bathroom flooring, they can also be used for wall covering, backsplashes, tub decks and showers.

Once you have decided that you want to use marble tiles, the next most important factor to consider is pricing. And like most of us, we want to find the cheapest marble but that of good quality. The bad news is there is really no cheap marble out there. It is not easy to obtain and thus it has a high price tag. If you want to go with a cheap alternative, you might try wood parquet or vinyl floor tiles.

If price is no object or you have bought your marble, then installing marble tiles would be next challenge. It is highly recommended that you hire an experienced tile installation professional to do the job or else all the splendor of your marble will have been put to waste if the tiling is done incorrectly. However, this does not mean that you cannot have a say in this process. Here are 3 things you can do (or ask the installer to do) to ensure that the installation process goes smoothly:

a) Make sure that the floor is sturdy and stable
b) Ensure that the floor is level
c) Have the tile installation professional lay out a test run

Following the 3 tips above is important in ensuring that the installation will go smoothly and without problems. You can also use them to check if your tile installer really knows what he or she is doing. If they do not follow the tips above, chances are they are not good a good choice for your installation.

After going through the information above, you should now be able to decide if marble tiles are worth it and should be part of your bathroom design strategy.
