There are various times during the year when we all try to lose weight.  Have you thought about it lately?  Are you starting to dread the influx of all those health magazines that promise you the best workout but rarely yield results?  Well, I know of a routine that will actually work and won’t require extreme adjustments to your lifestyle.  What is it?  It is a kettlebell workout.

Yes, I said a kettlebell workout.  You know that funny looking ball with the handle.  It is one of the best ways to get a workout that you can get.  In fact, there are multiple reasons that you should consider adopting a kettlebell workout to lose weight.

Cost Friendly

Kettlebells are relatively inexpensive compared to other fitness equipment. Seriously, they are one of the best deals that you can get.  You can start with a relatively small one and move up to a larger one as you progress.  There are various kettlebells that are available but I found the cheapest ones are usually on Amazon.


Unfortunately, my routine does not always allow me to exercise in the same place everyday.  When I look for exercise equipment I try to get items that I know will travel well.  The kettlebells are one of those things that you can take with you to the gym or on vacation.

Kettlebells are not new.  People have been using the kettlebell workout to lose weight for years.  Its’ popularity ebbs and flows with the times.  Because they have been around for a long time, there are various workouts that you can use to lose weight.  If you already have a kettlebell, you should consider adding more workouts to your exercise regimine. 

If you are a beginner, working with a kettlebell will have a slight learning curve.  After all, most people don't swing a weight very often.  So you will begin with a workout that concentrates on the proper form.  Take the time to learn the proper technique during your initial workouts.  It is extremely important to learn the proper way to exercise with a kettlebell.

As a beginner, a typical workout consists of swinging the kettlebell back and forth fifteen to twenty times.  You will usually repeat this cycle of movements three to four times (so swing the kettlebell between forty-five and eighty times). 

There are a lot of kettlebell workouts that are available for beginners.  If you are just starting out, you should consider the Gaiam Kettlenetics Slim and Tone Kit.  It is a simple kit that includes three different workouts on DVDs and a kettlebell.  This kit will allow the beginner to learn the proper form to use with a kettlebell and give enough variety to prepare the beginner for more difficult workouts.  One of my favorite programs is the one that is included with the workout.  It shows you how to properly use the kettlebell to make sure that you do not injure yourself.
