When decorating your child's room or playroom, at whatever age, kids rugs make great accessories. From infancy through the teenage years, unique or specially themed kids rugs can make any room special. You can use one or more rugs of varying colors, sizes, and designs. Kids rugs can be made out of different materials also, from soft shags, various fabric blends, and mat type rugs. Pictures or names can be used as well as different patterns of solids or stripes. Themes can be educational, sports, music or play oriented. Or, color and texture oriented rugs may be used to set the tone that you want for a certain room.

If you are decorating is a nursery, you can choose from soft pastels to primary colors. It is also fun in a nursery to use play themes such as blocks with letters, animals, flowers or balloons. The size of the rug used will likely depend on if your flooring is wood or carpet. Or you may want to use a different type of rug if the nursery will soon be a toddler's room. In that case, you can expand your themes to early educational rugs, perhaps in a mat type form with the alphabet or numbers. Trains and cars would be cute for a boy and perhaps flowers and kittens for a girl. There are really so many things you can choose from depending on your decor and how much space you want the rug or rugs to cover.

Kids rugs for the growing child who is in elementary school can have some of the same themes above as well as interactive types of designs. Spelling oriented rugs are also good for this age group as well as ones using their name. For instance, a solid colored rug might say Kate's Room for a girl or Ben's Room for a boy. Or maybe rugs with addition or subtraction or slightly more advanced educational themes would be appropriate.

Middle school kids rugs can grow with them. At that age you might have a sports themed rug, music themed rug, or computer themed rug. Solar system rugs are quite popular. By high school, your child will know exactly what type of rug or rugs he or she will want. You may be back to plain colors, stripes or woven rugs. The perfect Kids rug can grow with them be it in their bedroom or playroom.
