By | 2 Comments | Rating: 0 | |

Avid readers are always looking for new books to read. And if you also like to cook, then you are in luck because there are several fictional book series in publication that will satisfy both of those cravings. Although culinary mysteries are often not given the credit they deserve, they have a very loyal following that continues to grow. These books, most of which are mysteries, provide intriguing plot lines as well as mouth watering recipes to try out for your next meal.

In fact, readers will find that long after these books have been read for their plotlines, they will earn a place right beside recipe books in the kitchen. These authors do such a good job of incorporating food into their stories that by the time you are finished reading them your mouth is watering and you can't wait to get into the kitchen and start cooking. Although there are probably many books that can be classified as a culinary mystery, this article details only the three most popular series.

Probably one of the most well known series, as well as one of the best written, are those by author Diane Mott Davidson. Her books chronicle the escapades of Colorado caterer Goldy Schultz who always seems to find dead bodies no matter where she goes. The correct order for Diane Mott Davidson's book is as follows:

  • Catering to nobody
  • Dying for chocolate
  • Cereal murders
  • The last suppers
  • Killer pancake
  • Main corpse
  • Grilling season
  • Prime cut
  • Tough cookie
  • Sticks and scones
  • Chopping spree
  • Double shot
  • Dark tort
  • Sweet revenge
  • Fatally flaky
  • Carrot cake murder

J.B. Stanley books, also called The Supper Club Mystery Series, are also mysteries but occur in a small town setting. The correct order for Stanley's books is as follows:

  • Stiffs and Wine
  • Chili Con Corpses
  • A Battered Body
  • Fit to Die
  • Carbs and Cadavers

The final culinary mystery writer is Joanne Fluke. The main character in these books is bakery owner Hannah Swenson who lives in Lake Eden, Minnesota. The correct order for Joanne Fluke's books is as follows:

  • Chocolate chip cookie murder
  • Strawberry shortcake murder
  • Blueberry muffin murder
  • Lemon meringue pie murder
  • Fudge cupcake murder
  • Sugar cookie murder
  • Peach cobbler murder
  • Cherry cheesecake murder
  • Key lime pie murder

Great article. As an old chef -- and even older mystery fan -- I'm a big fan of Culinary Mysteries. Looking forward to Davidson's latest Goldy mystery, CRUNCH TIME.
