A woman's makeup drawer will not be considered complete without a couple of makeup brush sets. Makeup artists likewise have professional makeup brush sets in their toolboxes. They are necessary instruments for getting the best makeup application possible.

Having a good set of makeup brushes is the key to achieving the best makeup style or look. The biggest contributor to makeup application mistakes are a bad set of brushes. The best solution would be to use a makeup brush of the highest quality that you can afford. They make the makeup look better and make the application easier.

The makeup brushes with natural bristles and wooden handles are the best ones to use. Its wooden handle provides a good grip and it fits well in the hand. The natural traction of the wood grain provides enough hold for the fingers to deftly brush the face. Makeup users and artists are specific about their choice of brushes because having a single bad brush is enough to make a hot mess on the face.

Here is the list of important brushes that are needed to complete a good set:

Face
* Powder brush - It is a large and soft brush that is used for the powder application of the entire face. It also used to brush off excess powder.
* Contour brush - It is smaller than the powder brush and is mainly used for blusher application.

Eyes
* Blending brush - This is used for eye shadow blending for a softer look.
* Shadow brush - Used to apply shadow to the eyelid.
* Angled brush - Used to blend the color applied on the eye's creases.
* Liner brush - This one has a firm head for a detailed applications.
* Eyebrow brush - Used to brush the brows upwards and for finishing touches, so as to get a tidier look.
* Mascara brush - Used to separate the lashes after applying mascara.

Lips
* Long-handle brush - Usually used at home, instead of bringing in the purse, a long-handle brush is used for easier application.
* Retractable brush - This type of brush is easy to bring when you leave the house. It is small enough to fit in a bag since it does not have a long handle.

Now that you have a complete professional makeup brush set, you need to know how to clean them. Here are the steps to do that:

Cleaning
The makeup brush set should be properly maintained and cleaned to prolong its life. It is recommended to wash it at least once a week. More frequent cleaning is of course better. To wash the brush, hold it with the head going downwards in a diagonal position and put it under running water. It is better to use warm water to soften the bristles as well as the dirt. Keep the ferule dry if possible. Don't dip the brush into the water completely. Clean the hairs with a small amount of gentle soap and then wash it thoroughly but make sure to be careful, so as to not pull out bristles from the brush. Rinse the brush by holding it on a diagonal position using warm running water over it until the water becomes clear and no more color is coming from the brush. Keep the ferrule dry. Squeeze the brush with a clean, dry towel and shape it back to its normal form.

Get another dry towel and lay the brush on it to air dry. It will take a longer time for bigger brushes to dry compared to the smaller ones. Keep the brushes on a clean dry place to keep them protected and away from dirt and dust. Store them in a vanity box or makeup bags.

Keeping the makeup brush set clean does not only helps in preserving it, but also helps keep the face clean and healthy. Brushes are a good home for dirt and bacteria. Your goal of getting an excellent application of makeup with professional brushes will be useless if they are dirty and invite those bad elements to the face. This will create more trouble than just having messy makeup. Be sure to keep your makeup tools clean.

While a makeup brush set is a great investment they are only as good as the quality of the cosmetics. Avoid using cheap makeup that is made from petroleum byproducts. Not only are they bad for professional brushes they are also bad for your face. They can cause acne which in turn will cause acne scars. Cheap makeup kind of defeats the purpose, which is to make you beautiful. So, if that means that you need to save up your money then do it, because quality cosmetics with professional brushes will result in a beautiful you.
