A Family Safari to the Victoria Falls

If you’re tired of taking the same vacation year after year, a family safari in Africa is exactly what you need. One of the best safaris you can take as a family is a visit to one of Africa’s most iconic landmarks, the Victoria Falls. On a Zambia, Zimbabwe, Botswana or Namibia safari a visit to the magnificent falls can be incorporated into your itinerary. You will have read about the falls in books and seen it on the television, but getting up close to it really is a sensory experience. Your family safari can be as laid back or as active as you like; enjoy sunset cruises, helicopter rides and white water rafting all amongst the beautiful backdrop of the falls.

About the Victoria Falls

Victoria Falls – one of the seven natural wonders of the world and a UNESCO Heritage Site, is the ultimate place to take a family safari. Located in Southern Africa, on the border between Zambia and Zimbabwe the spectacular waterfall is one of the largest in the world and is often referred to as ‘the greatest known curtain of falling water’. Led by the Zambezi River, the falls can be seen from miles away as over 540 million cubic meters of water plummet over the edge per minute into a deep gorger over 100 meters below, causing a mystical spray to be formed. The Victoria Falls or Mosi-oa-Tunya (the Smoke that Thunders) as it is known by the Kololo tribe living in the area, is the ideal place from which to enjoy a family safari vacation. The falls were discovered by Scottish explorer Dr. David Livingstone in 1855 who wrote: ‘No one can imagine the beauty of the view from anything witnessed in England. It had never been seen before by European eye, but scenes so lovely must have been gazed upon by angels in their flight’.

Exploring the Victoria Falls on a Family Safari

Families can enjoy the Victoria Falls from a number of exciting ways. The activities available on a family safari here range from being relaxing and calm to exhilarating and challenging. Take a peaceful sunset cruise along the Zambezi River and soak up the stunning scenery or jump aboard a steam train and enjoy incredible views of the falls. If you’re an adventure enthusiast you’ll much prefer a helicopter flight for a bird’s eye view, white water rafting below the falls or doing a bungee jump from the Victoria Falls Bridge! A family safari to the Victoria Falls will create long lasting memories you’ll want to treasure forever – what are you waiting for?
