A Review Of The Meenee MNW737 13.3 inch laptop

By Edited Nov 13, 2013 0 0

The meenee MNW737 13.3 inch laptop is an ultra low cost laptop. This will probably appeal to many in the current worldwide economic slump, so in this article we will take a look at the meenee MNW737.  Its specification includes an Intel Atom processor, 2GB RAM and it utilizes the Ubuntu operating system.

In this article we are going to take a look at this laptop. If you want to check out the Amazon page for other peoples comments you can find it here.

The specification of the meenee MNW737 13.3 inch laptop includes:

  • 1.8 GHz Intel Atom processor
  • 2Gb RAM
  • 320 GB hard drive
  • Thin design
  • 1.3 Kg weight
  • Around 3.5 hours of battery life

Utilizing the Ubuntu operating system gives this laptop a different performance perspective compared to a machine running Windows 7 or XP. Traditionally Linux distributions such as Ubuntu have been less taxing than their Windows counterparts, and that statement still stands to an extent. It is still my belief that Ubuntu has a performance advantage, even if it is only based on the lack of a need to run an anti-virus application 24/7.

The CPU in the meenee, a 1.8GHz dual core Intel Atom, isn’t a massively powerful chip and is one more commonly found in desktop netbooks AKA net tops. However this laptop is low priced, similar to most netbooks, and that is what it should therefore be compared against. The CPU should provide plenty of performance and be able to do tasks like run office applications, Internet use and low CPU usage tasks. It will struggle to run applications like Internet video streaming and playing high definition content.

Design and ergonomics

The design of the meenee MNW737 13.3 inch laptop emulates that of the old White Apple MacBook. It has the same form factor, a 13.3 inch screen with white plastic build, but don’t expect it to have the same finesse as the Apple machine. This laptop only weights 1.3 Kg so it doesn’t weigh as much as a full sized laptop, making this a laptop/netbook hybrid.

The keyboard and track pad on the meenee MNW737 is again reminiscent of the Apple MacBook with raised keys although they are not the same Chiclet style. The track pad does leave much to be desired, and struggle to recognize imputes some time although I also advise the use of a small wireless mouse.

Other aspects

The use of the Ubuntu operating system was done for one objective, to avoid the crippling Microsoft tax. With Ubuntu you can get a lot of applications, including all the essential office and Internet application, from the included app store. This makes it easy to find new applications. You will be pleasantly surprised at the amount of user support offered on forums and via a quick Google search.

  • Excellent price for a 13.3-inch laptop
  • Ubuntu operating system – free and lots of free apps
  • Large hard drive
  • 2GB RAM

  • Ubuntu operating system – might be unfamiliar to some
  • Only has 3.5 hours of battery life
  • Glossy finish on the body

Is the meenee MNW737 laptop right for you?

The meenee MNW737 13.3 inch laptop is an interesting laptop and really doesn’t have many competitors.  I would recommend this machine to anyone who has a interest in computing or that is willing to learn the Ubuntu operating system – not that it takes much learning. The performance is similar to that of a netbook and the battery life isn’t brilliant, but it offers a lot of laptop for not a lot of money. You can see the Amazon page for the meenee MNW737 here.
