I recently got to go on a short trip to Gatlinburg, TN for a friends mountain top wedding. I had the chance to take in beautiful scenery, enjoy great weather, and visit the entertaining town of Gatlinburg. I never imagined that tucked away into the Smokey Mountains, there would be such a gem of a tourist attraction. I had read about the town and knew its historical value, but never imagined all of fun things I would encounter there!
I didn't have time to visit many places, but I did get to enjoy great food and drink, as well as entertainment while there. The one thing I noticed about the town in general is that there is something to do no matter what the age!
Ripley's Believe It Or Not has several attractions: the aquarium, odditorium, 5D moving theater, mirror maze, and world record showcase. I didn't get the chance to visit, but several friends did and highly recommend the experience! Very interactive and worth the money spent on the attractions.
One thing I did get to try was the Sky Line ride. It resembles a ski lift that goes all the way up a mountain, it starts downtown in the middle of Gatlinburg. 14$ for myself, but there were discounts available and cheap costs for children. At the top of the lift, there was a small novelty shop, refreshments, and a great view overlooking the town and surrounding mountains!
My friend and I also went into a black light mirror maze while trying to kill some time. Black light mini golf was also available in the same facility. If you want a good laugh for a cheap price- $9- then I highly recommend this attraction.
While walking along the street through town, there are numerous novelty stores, old-time photo booths, clothing stores, a few franchise stores, a small artisan village, entertainment attractions, and some great restaurants.
While in town enjoying the sights, I also stopped for dinner and drinks starting at Bubba Gump's Shrimp (mentioned in the movie Forest Gump). The restaurant was upstairs, indoors, and provided a nice view of the street below and the space needle across the street. The wait staff was extremely friendly, the restaurant was clean, and the food was great. It's not an extremely expensive meal-but it did cost me around $28 for a meal and drink. Well worth the experience and great food! Later in the evening we walked down the street to the Shamrock Lounge for drinks, pool, and karaoke. It is a small hole-in-the-wall bar, but they have a good selection of beer and alcohol. They have abundant space and seating indoors, as well as a nice fenced in patio outside.
Around the corner from Shamrock Lounge is a restaurant/karaoke bar called Craw Daddies; several of my friends visiting here and said they highly recommend it for its great atmousphere and shrimp as well!
I wish I had more time to visit and participate in more attractions, but nevertheless, I had a wonderful time in Gatlinburg. I would highly recommend this fun little gem for a family vacation or couples' get away at a great price! There are so many places to stay, from cabins to hotel chains, and a few towns in close proximity to visit for even more entertainment options!
